Full-Time Position Overview:

The Organic Farm General Manager is responsible for overseeing and managing the day-to-day operations of an orchard farm. This role involves ensuring the farm operates efficiently, meets production targets, and adheres to organic quality and safety standards. The Organic Farm General Manager will supervise farm staff, manage resources, and develop strategies to enhance productivity and sustainability.

Key Responsibilities:
Farm Management:

Oversee and manage daily farm activities, including planting, irrigation, fertilization, pest control, harvesting, and equipment maintenance in accordance with organic farming regulations.

Staff Supervision:

Supervise, train, and coordinate farm workers, contractors, and seasonal labor to ensure tasks are performed effectively and safely.

Resource Management:

Manage farm equipment, inventory, and supplies required for farm operations. Coordinate maintenance and repairs as necessary.

Budgeting & Financial Oversight:

Coordinate with owner/management to develop and manage the farm’s operating budget, track expenditures, and implement cost-saving measures.

Quality Control & Compliance:

Ensure farm practices adhere to organic farming industry standards, environmental regulations, and safety guidelines.

Crop Production:

Plan and execute strategies for maximizing crop yields productivity while ensuring sustainability.

Reporting and Documentation:

Maintain accurate records of farm activities, including production data, labor, equipment, and finances. Prepare regular reports for the farm owner or senior management regarding operational performance, challenges, and progress.

Problem Solving:

Identify and address challenges related to farm operations, such as pest infestations, weather conditions, or machinery malfunctions.

Strategic Planning:

Develop long-term strategies to improve operational efficiency, increase profitability, and enhance sustainability practices on the farm.

Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Farm Management, or a related field (preferred). Minimum of 10 years of experience in farm management, agricultural operations, or a related role. Strong knowledge of farming practices, machinery, crop management. Excellent leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills. Ability to manage multiple tasks, prioritize, and work under pressure. Proficiency in farm management software or basic computer skills (e.g., Microsoft Office). Knowledge of environmental regulations, organic farming regulations and safety standards in agriculture. Physical ability to work outdoors and lift heavy equipment when necessary.

Preferred Skills:

Experience with organic farming practices. Familiarity with advanced agricultural technologies (e.g., GPS tracking, automated irrigation systems). Knowledge of sustainable farming practices and environmental stewardship.
