About the

Position:

The Assistant Dairy Farm Manager will assist and work with the Dairy Superintendent in the operation and management of the dairy facility. Provide leadership in the absence of the superintendent. Carry out standards set forth by DVU and the superintendent in the area of breeding, feeding, milking, and management. Assist and support classroom and laboratory education programs that directly involve the dairy barn. Assist and be on duty for special events. Direct and supervise student employees. Assist with management and maintenance of the dairy facility. Work to reach goals set forth regarding management of feeding, breeding, production, and heifer raising. This position is a great developmental opportunity for someone who wants to learn how to run a Diary Farm.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Breeding, feeding, milking, and maintaining dairy animals Supervising students in all aspects of the dairy Daily maintenance, fixing machinery, upgrading the facility
Purchasing feed and other supplies Office paperwork, timecards, etc.
Assisting faculty with education and special events Other duties as assigned

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Good animal-handling skills and an understanding of animal welfare and health issues
Knowledge of farm equipment operations and maintenance
Technical/practical dairy farming skills/qualifications
Some veterinarian skills (IV, administering drugs, and shots)
Ability to drive a livestock truck and trailer
Problem solving skills (the ability to handle unexpected situations)
Reliable (dependable and consistent)
Obtain a medical card

Education and Experience:

High School diploma or equivalent (GED)
Must have 1-3 years of directly related experience
