Job Responsibilities
This employee will serve as the Deputy Director of the Wildlife and Freshwater Fisheries Division (WFF).
Job Duties Include:
Organizing, leading and managing a staff of resource professionals responsible for the protection, conservation and management of the state’s aquatic and wildlife resources based on sound science and public needs. Performing administrative responsibilities as the WFF Division chief operating officer through the efficient and effective management and oversight of the Division’s monetary, equipment, supplies, properties and human resources. Representing the Division’s mission, personnel, resource issues, legal needs, budgetary requirements and legislative pursuits as the primary contact with the Agency Director, Board, Wildlife & Freshwater Fisheries and Waterfowl Advisory Committees, General Assembly, public, other government agencies and non-governmental entities. Through staff assistance, developing and performing science-based studies and investigations resulting in management recommendations that are pursued for implementation. Specifying habitat protection goals and developing strategies to address current and future resource concerns. Assisting the agency and other Deputy Directors in providing leadership, support and guidance across the divisions to address challenges from an agency-wide perspective.
Minimum and Additional Requirements
Master’s degree and five (5) years of related experience or a bachelor’s degree and six (6) years of related experience. Preferred experience includes a master’s degree and ten (10) years of related experience. Preferred Qualifications
Demonstrated ability to manage people effectively; strong organizational and communication skills; proven experience working with constituent groups, ability to make difficult decisions and/or ability to facilitate groups and meetings with conflicting positions, ability to work closely with legislative issues, ability to establish and enhance partnerships, proven supervisory/leadership skills, strong public speaking skills, planning skills to include, but not limited to budget planning, human resource planning and strategic planning.
