May 2, 2025 Overview The Baker Lab at the Dauphin Island Sea Lab is seeking a Research Technician to support ongoing research projects along the Alabama coast. This is a full-time, 1-year position with a 6-month probationary period, and the potential for extension based on performance and funding availability. The candidate will play a crucial role in project management, field data collection and analysis, and associated reporting. The role offers training in ecological sampling methods (nekton surveys [seine nets, throw traps, underwater video], wetland vegetation monitoring, bivalve surveys, topographical mapping) and sample processing (benthic infauna, sediment, nekton). Qualifications Master’s degree in marine science, ecology, environmental science, or a related field, or equivalent experience Experience in ecological research and fieldwork Proficiency in data entry and basic data analysis Ability to perform physically demanding fieldwork in potentially challenging conditions U.S. citizenship or residency Preferred Qualifications (one or more of): Experience in project management Proficiency in Geographic Information Systems (GIS) software and applications Experience with ecological data analysis in R Experience operating small vessels Experience with technical writing How to Apply The preferred start date is June 2, 2025, but flexibility is possible for the ideal candidate.
