Laboratory and Research USNH Employees should apply within Workday through the Jobs Hub app The aquaculture field scientist will work within the Center for Sustainable Seafood Systems. They will assist in multiple research projects related to production of fish, shellfish and macroalgae in oceanic conditions. The candidate will be responsible for vessel operations, SCUBA diving, daily maintenance, live organism transport, data collection and transport. They will also assist in fabrication and deployment of aquaculture gear. The candidate will be supervised by Dr. Michael Coogan. Duties/Responsibilities Aquaculture husbandry (60%)
The candidate will participate in daily fish feedings, sampling and data collection, welfare diagnostics, system maintenance, transport and stocking. Seafood harvesting (30%)
The candidate will assist in weekly harvest of farmed steelhead trout, packing and transport to local markets. SCUBA (10%)
The candidate will assist in SCUBA diving operations to deploy and maintain gear, conduct environmental assessments and maintain animal welfare. Minimum Qualifications Minimum Acceptable Education & Experience
The applicant must possess a bachelor’s degree in marine science, biology, environmental science, aquaculture or a related field. Required Licenses and Certifications
The applicant must possess an AAUS scientific diving certification. The applicant must possess a valid US Driver’s License. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
The applicant must possess basic aquaculture skills and an understanding of marine organism physiology and husbandry. Other Requirements
This is a physically demanding position. The applicant must be able to lift 40 lbs, work outdoors on the ocean, and in the sun for long days. Preferred Qualifications
The applicant ideally has a New Hampshire Safe Boating Certificate and experience operating vessels and conducting marine fieldwork.
