Public Health Inspector 5.0 5.0 out of 5 stars 50 Payson Avenue, Easthampton, MA 01027 The City of Easthampton is seeking to fill the position of Public Health Inspector with the Easthampton Public Health Department. The Health Inspector is responsible for routine inspections and investigations of complaints of unsanitary conditions, practices, and nuisances affecting the public’s health in accordance with local, state, and federal law. This includes interpreting, implementing, and enforcing the Code of Massachusetts Regulations, Board of Health Regulations, Mass. General Laws and City Bylaws pertaining to all aspects of Public Health. This position offers benefits.
Schedule:
Monday – Thursday, 34 hours per week (occasional weekend work)

$24.21 – $28.91 per
Hour Primary Duties:
Conduct routine, complaint, and temporary inspections of food service establishments to assure compliance with Federal, State, and local codes and regulations. Investigates violations of and enforce the provisions of Chapter II of the State Sanitary Code, Minimum Standards of Fitness for Human Habitation. Prepare findings and issue orders to correct the owners or occupants of the dwelling unit. Conduct re-inspections of dwelling units. Prepare documents to issue a condemnation order if, in the opinion of the inspector, the violations pose an immediate threat to the health, safety, and well-being of occupants of the dwelling unit. Responsible for placarding dwelling unit as “condemned” and ensuring the occupants are removed from unit in a timely manner. Requests additional inspections (i.e., building, plumbing, wiring) when warranted. Respond after normal business hours to emergency situations such as fires, significant damage to dwellings/food establishments, etc. Perform lead paint determinations in conformity with standard procedures. Investigate nuisances, filth, and causes of sickness to abate violations and correct unsanitary conditions. Conduct inspections of public/semi-public swimming pools and spas, recreational camps for children, and tanning salons. Conducts inspections of body art establishments to determine Board of Health regulation compliance. Perform inspections to eliminate vermin and rodents and determine asbestos violations, hazardous spills, obnoxious odors, etc. Enforce regulations, prepare reports, and perform related work. Investigate violations of regulations Prohibiting Smoking in Workplaces and Public Places and the Massachusetts Smoke-Free Workplace Law. Enforcement of local tobacco regulations with respect to youth access. Perform inspection of private sewage disposal systems, witness percolation tests, and review on-site sewage disposal system plans to assure compliance with Title V regulations. Prepare accurate and complete records of inspections performed. Schedule inspections, maintain accurate and detailed records of enforcement actions, and monitor timelines for compliance. File complaints with courts for enforcement action; appear in court as necessary to present subject cases. Contact with local, state, and federal agencies, personnel, vendors, and representatives of outside organizations, as well as the general public.
Qualifications:
Associate degree in public health, environmental sanitation, or a related field of work with one year of experience as a sanitary inspector, code enforcement inspector, sanitarian, or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS
Valid Massachusetts Class D or higher driver’s license. If do not have, must have the ability to obtain the following:
