Job Description
Water running down the trail is its biggest destructive force. And, once the initial damage has been done, repairs must be made to prevent additional damage. Help the Appalachian Mountain Club Connecticut Chapter improve the Trail for all at this work party on Saturday, July 12 from 9 am – 3 pm ! No experience required; just a desire to do some hard work to make a positive difference on the A.T.! Volunteers will be installing some log and rock steps to “fill in” where water has washed away some of the treadway. While moving and setting large logs and rocks isn’t necessarily easy, this project has the added challenge of requiring that we carry our tools about a mile in and 500 ft up from the trailhead. Not all projects can be right next to the road! Once we get to the work site, we will be setting precut logs, and building some additional rock steps and perhaps a waterbar or two. Bring lunch, gloves, and plenty of water. We’ll meet at 9:00 am at the trailhead (details provided after registration) and finish about 3:00 pm. All tools will be provided; no experience is required. Please contact your trip leader Jim Liptak at liptackj@gmail.com if you have any questions. Registration is required to ensure that enough tools are available. Exact location will be shared after registration.
