POSITION SUMMARY

The Golf Course Superintendent directly assists the Director in all aspects of the maintenance operation and is responsible for reports to the Chief Operating Officer/General Manager for the entire operation in the absence of the Director.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Direct supervision and coordination of course superintendents and field supervisors on a daily basis. Develops weekly and monthly maintenance schedules with each course superintendent and reviews schedules with the Director prior to implementation. Employs follow-up of all golf courses and club grounds activities and administers advice and direction to supervisors as necessary. Assists Director with the development of annual operating budgets, and reviews monthly financial statements ensuring operation is managed within budget plan. Assist Director with annual and long-range golf course and landscape improvement plans. Reviews equipment needs and assists Director with development of annual Capital Budget and leased equipment plan. Coordinates the availability and use of equipment with the Equipment Manager, monitors mowing heights, quality of cut and overall operation of equipment in the field. Interviewing, hiring, training and discharging of all line staff. Ensuring all staff comply with company and departmental policy. Planning and ensuring regular staff safety meetings, staff briefings, and employee functions are carried out in a timely manner. Chairs regularly scheduled staff briefings and meetings as directed or in absence of Director. Maintains chemical and fertilizer inventory ensuring that all materials and quantities are ordered and purchased in a timely manner through proper company purchasing procedures. Ensure a clean, organized and safe maintenance facility while arranging for disposal of useless equipment when necessary. Assists Director with long-range equipment replacement plan and necessary capital upgrades to maintenance facility. Monitors irrigation system efficiency and directs irrigation foreman as necessary. Ensues that irrigation pumping stations are kept clean, and that a preventative maintenance plan for all pumps is adhered to. Contacts pump contractor(s) for repairs or checks as necessary. Assist Director in monitoring common area and lake management, providing directions to contractors when necessary. Communicates and coordinates information with Green Chairman and other committee chairs or Board members when directed. Attends Green Committee meetings as directed. Communicate with membership on course activities as necessary and assists Director in dissemination of newsletter or other pertinent information when directed. Takes direction and reports to Chief Operating Officer and/or Club President as necessary. Maintains professional bearing, dress and decorum; and always represents the company and the department in a positive light. Comply with all Club operating procedures and policies in discharging duties. Education/Experience Completion of a formal training course in Turfgrass Science. Experience and job knowledge in construction, grow-in and Golf Course Maintenance Operations. Knowledge of golf, rules of golf and the ability to play the game. Must be knowledge and capable of operating all equipment. Qualifications/Skills Ability to understand, interpret and follow a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form. Outside work for extended periods of time and precautions should be taken. Ability to work on a schedule that will include some weekends and holidays. Interpersonal skills to resolve conflicts and work with supervisors, employees, and members. Knowledge, experience and ability to manage personnel. Licenses or Certificates Current pesticide applicator license.
