Must possess a current physician’s certificate confirming ability to perform assigned duties. Must possess Pesticide Applicator’s License for Turf and Ornamentals. Must possess a valid driver’s license.
Scheduled Work Days; Hours of Work
7:00am to 3:30pm or as regional priorities dictate. May 1 to September 30, workweek includes Saturdays and Sundays, Days off are two days off Tuesday through Friday, October 1 to April 30, workweek is Monday through Friday – days off are Saturdays and Sundays OR as Divisional priorities dictate.

GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES

To be responsible for and perform a variety of skilled maintenance and supervisory functions relating to the operation and maintenance of golf course grounds with command of golf course turf management, ornamental plant management, irrigation, tournament play conditions, specialized equipment; and to do related work as required.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED

Works under the general supervision of a superior from whom general and specific work assignments and instructions are received with latitude for the exercise of technical judgement; work is reviewed for results obtained and conformance with directives and divisional policies, objectives, rules and regulations and restrictions.

SUPERVISION EXERCISED

Plans, organizes, coordinates and supervises the work of personnel, both full time and seasonal, assigned to assist; as assigned, may monitor the work of vendors providing services for conformance to bid specifications.
Illustrative Examples of Work Performed
To be responsible for and perform a variety of skilled maintenance and supervisory functions relating to the operation and maintenance of golf course grounds with command of golf course turf management, ornamental plant management, irrigation, tournament play condition, specialized equipment.
To perform a variety of manual and technical tasks involving the health and vigor of golf course turf used in green, tees, fairways and roughs.
To operate and supervise the use of equipment in the practices of cutting, mowing, aerating, top dressing, fertilizing, irrigation/watering, chemical application and other related equipment.
To perform and supervise the technical aspects of golf course turf management to include detection, identification and treatment of various pests, diseases and environmental conditions relative to maintaining and improving turf quality.
To perform supervisory and record keeping functions to include daily assignment sheets, material/equipment and/or service requisition recommendations, maintain chemical application data reports and other related reports and records as required.
To perform manual labor necessary for course cleanliness, equipment maintenance and special projects.
To perform and supervise the care and maintenance of ornamental plantings and public areas of golf course grounds to include beds, walkways, cart paths, benches, shelters, storage areas, water fountains and related facilities.
To evaluate and be responsible for the maintenance of the golf course facilities and activities and to make recommendations for their improvement.
To ensure that all applicable safety regulations are adhered to.
To determine that proper equipment is employed and maintained at all times.
To do related work as required.
Required Qualifications for Appointment

KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS AND CAPACITIES

A thorough working knowledge of principles, methods and practices of golf course turf science and management; a working knowledge of specialized course equipment, operation, calibration and maintenance requirements; the ability to plan, supervise and evaluate the work of classifications assigned to assist; the ability to evaluate current facility conditions and make recommendations for their improvement or expansion; the ability to keep accurate, detailed records concerning chemical applications and conformance to commercial pesticide applicator regulations; the ability to collect pertinent data and information and prepare reports required by superior(s); and related capacities and abilities.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Education:

Such as may have been gained through: graduation from a recognized college with a degree in Turf Management or a related field; and

Experience:

Such as may have been gained through: employment in a supervisory capacity with direct responsibility for golf course maintenance.
Or, any combination of education and experience that shall be substantially equivalent to the above education and experience.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

At the time of appointment must be physically qualified to perform assigned duties as evidenced by a physician’s certificate. As a condition of employment, must possess and maintain a valid Commercial Pesticide Applicator’s License for Turf and Ornamentals and a valid Rhode Island Drivers License.
Supplemental Information
Must possess a degree in Turf Management or related field, or must have experience in supervisory capacity with
direct responsibilities for golf course maintenance.
