Charles Towne Landing State Historic Site sits on a marshy point, located off the Ashley River, where a group of English settlers landed in 1670 and established what would become the birthplace of South Carolina. Charles Towne Landing introduces visitors to the earliest colonial history of Charleston. Interact with hands-on exhibits in the Visitor Center, talk to knowledgeable staff members, and take a walk on the self-guided history trail.

Job Purpose and Duties:

Manages the administration and operation of Charles Towne Landing State Historic Site. Performs duties governed by broad instructions, objectives and policies as defined by the agency. Responsibilities include operational supervision, fiscal management, visitor services and other business sections to include retail and visitor services activities. Assists with the training and supervision of both full-time and seasonal employees. In the absence of the Park Manager, assumes responsibility for the operation of the park.
1) Assists with park administrative duties in accordance w/ department policy & procedures (ie. procurement methods, requisitions, annual planning/reviews and reports.) Responsible for maintaining of park inventory of equipment, supplies, facilities, and retail items. Provides required reports.
2) Assists with planning of long and short term park projects. Assists with management of buildings, grounds, and equipment. Provides required reports. Duty-Employee will be required to live in designated park housing to provide for security, safety and emergency response.
3) Oversees business section to include all visitor services and retail operations.
4) Provide leadership and direction to subordinate staff to enhance their skills and job knowledge. Assume responsibility necessary to advance both your skills and those around you.
5) Works to provide a safe environment for park visitors and employees. Enforces park rules, regulations, and policies within his/her authority. Acts as the safety officer for the park. Insures all safety related inspections, training and reports are completed in a timely manner as requested by State safety officer.
6) Manages the total park function in the absence of the Park Manager.
7) Responsible for accounts receivable, accounts payable and their accountability and performs duties relative to accepting revenues, their collection, accountability, disposition, and audit.
8) Practice and promote teamwork within the Charles Towne Landing, throughout the agency and with external agency stakeholders. Represents office as an active member on agency teams assigned throughout the year.
Minimum and Additional Requirements
Bachelors Degree in Park Administration or related field, with one (1) year experience as a park ranger or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Additional Requirements:

1) Use judgement and discretion in the decision making process based on established procedures and guidelines. Provide a customer friendly service oriented work environment. Experience supervising full time employees and in customer relations. Able to make public presentations and represent the park and the agency to the public and the press. Position requires medium to heavy lifting, bending, walking, and standing on uneven terrain, crawling and working at heights. Exposure to weather conditions, cleaning agents and other material used in maintaining park facilities and grounds. Works with office equipment such as computers, calculators, typewriter, etc. Able to work flexible schedule, including weekends and holidays. Position requires occupancy of park-provided housing.
2) The ability to effectively communicate both orally and in writing. The ability to work independently or as part of a team as well as the ability to direct others.
3) Must possess a valid SC drivers license.
