Position Description Advertised Job Summary Plans and supervises the grounds maintenance functions and staff at the USC School of Medicine VA and Palmetto Richland campuses. To demonstrate commitment to conducting business lawfully and ethically by consistently adhering to compliance policies, procedures and regulations. Job Related Minimum Required Education and Experience Requires a bachelor’s degree in a job related field and 5 or more years of job related experience, which may be substituted by an equivalent combination of job related certification, training, education, and/or experience. Required Certification, Licensure/Other Credentials S.C. pesticide applicator’s license or able to successfully complete requirements for license during employee probationary period. Must have valid S.C. driver’s license. Preferred Qualifications Knowledge/Skills/Abilities Knowledgeable in the care and maintenance of plants, trees, flowers and shrubs. Ability to supervise, interview, evaluate, discipline, and train employees. Ability to plan and direct work activities, to manage time effectively, and set priorities. Ability to resolve problems independently and make decisions. Skill in interpersonal communication to effectively interact with University personnel and public in person and over the phone. Written communication skills. Ability to diagnose problems with lawns, flowers, shrubs, etc., and determine appropriate action (e.g., identify treatment for diseased trees, etc.). Skill in grounds maintenance (e.g., applying sprays, planting, pruning, trimming, transplanting, etc.) and safety procedures. Skill in use of hand and power tools. Ability to use, sharpen and make minor repairs to tools and equipment. Required to conduct business lawfully and ethically by consistently adhering to compliance policies, procedures and regulations. Job Duties Job Duty Plan and manage the work activities of groundskeepers. Assist with groundskeeping activities. Inspect grounds to ensure they are properly maintained, to include the pruning of trees, bushes, etc. Essential Function Yes Percentage of Time 35 Job Duty Ensure appropriate training of staff. Monitor employees recording of hours worked, recommend approval/disapproval of leave requests, conduct performance evaluations of employees Essential Function Yes Percentage of Time 25 Job Duty Ensure proper pesticide treatment of buildings and grounds. Remove, trap, and catch wildlife on buildings and grounds, living or deceased, and relocate to another location. Essential Function Yes Percentage of Time 20 Job Duty Maintain all grounds equipment.
