Positions Supervised Will supervise the Horticulture Specialist, Supervisors, and landscape employees.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Ability to read and understand architectural site and/or landscaping plans, drawings and other operational and maintenance manuals common to the trade.
Extensive knowledge of landscaping methods and industry best practices related to grading, planting, pruning, irrigation, mowing, edging, fertilization, spraying, etc.
Knowledge of landscaping equipment, to include effective use and associated training requirements.
Knowledge of vehicle and equipment preventive maintenance.
Hold or acquire required licenses and certifications needed for application of fertilizers and pesticides.
Proficient in using a Windows Operating System as well as Microsoft Office applications (Word, Outlook, Excel, etc.) GIS and CAD systems knowledge and use a plus.
Ability to communicate effectively both in writing and verbally with a diverse population of constituents.
Flexibility to work after normal business hours when necessary.

Duties & Responsibilities Guides, trains, and gives technical assistance to supervisors engaged in the daily grounds landscaping and special horticultural projects. Inspects completed assignments to ensure satisfactory work quality, efficiency, progress, methods and practices, safety and other established standards and requirements are met and maintained.
Ensures timely and appropriate response to weather events, after-hours emergencies, and special events.
Oversees work progress of Landscape contractors in accordance with established University procedures.
Assists with campus solid waste removal contract, to include recycling; coordinates loading, hauling, and delivery of scrap metal waste, tires, etc. to vendor.
Implements landscape design projects, reads drawings and specifications, selects and orders herbaceous and woody plant material and any other items necessary to complete projects.
Reviews and provides feedback on landscaping plans developed by others.
Ensure all work carried out by Landscape services staff and contractors meet relevant health and safety requirements and established University Health and Safety, Environmental, Sustainability and other policies and procedures.
Duties & Responsibilities Establish and maintain direct personal contact with a wide spectrum of University community members affected and/or concerned with the quality, safety and appearance of the campus grounds or other property.
Provide landscaping and horticultural consultation to other campus departments as necessary.
Manage and further develops the University’s Level III Arboretum status, Wildlife Habitat status, Tree Campus status and Lambuth Campus’ Arboretum status.
Represent the University on the Tennessee Urban Forestry Council (TUFC).
Duties & Responsibilities Plan, develop, and manage efficient, economical preventive maintenance of tools and equipment assigned, including schedules and activity to ensure prolonged life, usefulness and safety of equipment to minimize breakdowns, failures and hazards.
Initiate the purchase of supplies, tools, and equipment in accordance with established purchasing procedures.
Direct various personnel functions to include, but not limited to, recruitment, performance management, training and development, disciplinary actions and leave approval for all direct reports. Oversee the hiring and training of student workers and temporary workers; participates in the interview process and provides approval for the hiring of permanent staff.
Monitor and analyze work patterns to ensure even distribution of work across work areas. Assist with determining staffing and seasonal labor needs for the department.
