Tree Service Groundsman Evergreen Tree Service Pensacola, FL 32526 We are seeking a dedicated and physically capable Tree Service Ground Worker to join our team. The role involves supporting tree care operations, including tree removal, pruning, and debris cleanup, while prioritizing safety in a high-risk environment. The ideal candidate will be comfortable working in intense heat, handling chainsaws, and operating heavy equipment under strict safety protocols.
- Key Responsibilities
- :•Assist crew with tree cutting, trimming, and removal by preparing work areas and clearing debris.
- Safely operate and maintain chainsaws, and other equipment under supervision.
- Load, unload, and transport heavy branches, logs, and equipment to and from job sites.
- Perform ground-level tasks such as raking, sweeping, and hauling debris to maintain a clean and safe work environment.
- Set up traffic and pedestrian control measures, including cones and signs, to ensure job site safety.
- Communicate effectively with team members to coordinate tasks and maintain situational awareness.
- Adhere to all safety protocols, including proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE) such as helmets, gloves, chaps, eye protection, and ear protection.
- Monitor weather conditions and adjust work practices to manage risks associated with intense heat and humidity.
- Safety Requirements
- :•Chainsaw Safety•: Follow strict protocols for chainsaw operation, including proper handling, maintenance, and use of cut-resistant chaps, gloves, and face shields.
Complete training on safe cutting techniques to prevent kickback and injuries.
- Heavy Equipment Safety
- : Operate machinery (e.g., wood chippers, stump grinders, and skid steers) only after certification and under supervision. Conduct pre-use inspections to ensure equipment is in safe working condition. Maintain a clear distance from operating machinery to avoid entanglement or struck-by hazards.
- Heat Safety
- : Adhere to heat illness prevention guidelines, including mandatory hydration breaks, use of cooling gear (e.g., hats, neck wraps), and monitoring for signs of heat exhaustion or heat stroke. Follow a work-rest schedule during peak temperatures to minimize heat-related risks.
- Participate in regular safety training and toolbox talks to stay updated on best practices and OSHA regulations.
- Report all safety hazards, near-misses, or incidents immediately to the supervisor.
- Qualifications
- :•High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
- Previous experience in tree care, landscaping, or construction is a plus but not required; on-the-job training provided.
- Physical stamina to perform strenuous tasks, lift up to 50 lbs, and work in Florida’s hot and humid climate for extended periods.
- Ability to follow instructions and work effectively in a team environment.
- Valid Florida driver’s license with a clean driving record.
- Must pass a background check
- Willingness to complete safety certifications, including chainsaw operation and first aid/CPR, if not already certified.
