Veteran Preference Qualifications:

High School Diploma or equivalent preferred. One year of job related experience may be used in lieu of the education.
Valid Florida Driver’s License for required travel. Experience in landscaping and equipment repair, preferred.
Employer conducts background check, drug screening, and E-Verify.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Ability to operate various lawn maintenance tools and equipment.
Knowledge of fertilizer and chemical uses and application.
Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions of the work.
Ability to understand and follow both oral and written directions.
Ability to work under minimal supervision.

Job Goal:

To maintain the grounds for the District in a condition of operating excellence so that full educational use of the grounds may be made at all times.

Responsibilities:

• Operate equipment such as mowers, edgers, trimmers, hedgers and sweepers.
• Cultivate soil for seeding or transplants.
• Plant seeds, bulbs, tree seedlings and shrubbery as needed.
• Prune trees and trim hedges as needed.
• Mow grass with hand or power mower as required.
• Inspect flowers, shrubs and trees for insects, fungi and other pests and treat as required.
• Adjust and repair all equipment as required. Maintain contact with Supervisor regarding maintenance needs. Collect and dispose of leaves and refuse as needed. Assist with both short-term and long-term planning as required. Perform other incidental tasks consistent with the goals and objectives of this position.
• Ability to work in a constant state of alertness and safe manner.

Essential Performance Responsibilities Requirements:

Heavy Work:

Exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently and/or up to 20 pounds of force as needed to move objects.
