Position Description

ENTRY SALARY

$45,446.56 Under limited supervision, the Parks Service Technician III provides leadership, direction, and supervision of all semi-skilled and skilled manual work of ordinary difficulty in the care, keeping, and beautification of all parks, landscape, grounds, and recreation facilities. Current recruitment is for our Median Landscape and Irrigation/Spray Technician Teams.

Duties and Responsibilities Essential Functions :

— Essential functions, as defined under the Americans with Disabilities Act, may include any of the following representative duties, knowledge, and skills. Essential duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following: Supervises, schedules, organizes, and coordinates the work of the Park Service Technicians; provides guidance and direction for constructing, repairing, cleaning, maintaining, and beautifying facilities, properties, and grounds. Maintains athletic fields, directs weekly maintenance tasks, and ensures the proper set up for leagues and programs. Coordinates, schedules, and organizes tournaments, leagues, and different sports user groups; ensures appropriate staff is scheduled for tournaments and leagues. Delegates, oversees, and monitors the servicing of landscaped areas of the parks and recreation department; ensures mowing, trimming, weeding, and assisting with irrigation; assists with irrigation service and repair, chemical applications, and other landscaping tasks. Applies sprays, chemicals, and spreads granular applications of pesticides and fertilizers; demonstrates skill and knowledge to ensure safety and compliance. Delegates, performs, and oversees the general maintenance in relation to grounds, facility, and park amenities; services, cleans, and monitors the condition of the public restrooms within the parks department and facilities. Serves as gardener, caretaker, park maintenance worker, and janitor for any and all service needs of the department; ensures appropriate staff is assigned and delegated work, and may engage with customers regarding facility conditions. Performs tasks involving the use of hand tools, power tools and equipment, and the operation of City vehicles such as pickup trucks and small dump trucks. Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications Licenses, Certifications, and Equipment:

A valid State driver’s license is required. Certificate for the application of lawn and ornamental pesticides. Must have or be able to acquire a limited lawn and ornamental applicator license through the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services within one (1) year of hire. For Landscape and Athletics Divisions, exempting Irrigation Technicians. This position is required to operate the below equipment, machines, tools, and other work aides: Pick-up truck, riding mowers, trucks & ERS, motorized carts, weed eaters, edgers, tillers, sod cutters, blowers, and other equipment as assigned.

Education and Experience:

High School Diploma, High School Equivalency Diploma or G.E.D. Certificate AND two (2) years of experience as a laborer in the care and maintenance of parks or other similar grounds; OR an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience may be considered. Supplemental Information Knowledge of – Proper landscape, athletic field, and grounds maintenance procedures Athletic field layouts, turf grasses, and irrigation techniques Layout of softball and baseball diamonds Hand and power tools and equipment Department policies and protocols Equipment maintenance practices and methods Skill in – Operate and use hand and power tools, small trucks and other equipment Managing, scheduling, and coordinating athletic fields, tournaments, and programs Understanding and carrying out oral and written instructions Establishing and maintaining good relationships Using radio and communicating work Read, understand, and apply warning labels Dealing tactfully with customers Using tact and independent judgment within established guidelines Operating a computer with general proficiency
