POSITION SUMMARY
This position is responsible for performing all phases of landscape maintenance at County Facilities. Work is performed outside of County Facilities where employee is occasionally exposed to cold or inclement weather. Employee may be exposed to plants such as poison ivy, poison sumac and/or poison oak that contains urushiol oil that may cause a skin rash. Preventative wash is provided for employees. Employee is also exposed to noise, dust, dirt, grease, and machinery which have moving parts. Employee must wear protective devices as needed. Work is performed with employee intermittently sitting, standing, stooping, bending, or crouching. Employee must lift both light and heavy objects frequently, climb ladders, possess a high degree of manual dexterity, and be able operate landscape equipment.
NATURE AND SCOPE
The purpose of this position is to assist in maintaining County facility grounds at an acceptable standard of safety, attractiveness, and utility. Errors may result in unsafe and/or unsightly work which could create legal liability, an unpleasant environment for employees, and a poor image for the county. Guidelines included are work orders and instructions from the supervisor. Guidelines are usually clear and specific, but employee must occasionally choose the guideline which applies to a given situation. The work of this position is to perform landscaping tasks at County facilities. The variety of tasks to be performed, weather conditions and the occasional lack of specialized tools add to complexity of the work. Contacts are typically with co-workers, representatives of other county departments and vendors.
PRINCIPLE ACCOUNTABILITIES
Performs landscape maintenance tasks. Operates landscape equipment to include mowers, edgers, blowers, trimmers, chain saws and or small landscape tractors. Position will be using hand tools such as rakes, shovels and manual cutting tools. Position will be required to manually pick up debris, pull weeds, remove and replant shrubs or trees. Performs other related duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Knowledge of the methods, techniques, and standards used in landscape work. Skill in operating landscape equipment. Skill in oral communication. Skill in understanding and following oral and written instructions.
DESIRABLE TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE
Sufficient experience to understand the basic principles relevant to the major duties of landscaping usually associated with having a similar position for one to two years. Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid driver’s license issued by the State of Georgia for the class of vehicle or equipment operated. A combination of education and/or work experience may be substituted for minimum requirements.
