POSITION SUMMARY
The Landscaping Technician is a part-time, non-exempt position. Responsible for maintaining an aesthetically pleasing and functional outdoor space, the Landscaping Technician will have a number of duties that keep the grounds clean and attractive. Duties include, but are not limited to, removing trash from the grounds, watering the grounds as necessary, cleaning exterior public areas, removing snow and ice from public areas, and performing any other duties as directed by the Landscape Maintenance Manager.
WHAT YOU’LL DO
Maintaining site landscaping. Maintaining lawns, trees, shrubs. Maintain weed-free sidewalks and other paved areas, swept yards, and archeological sites. Clear brush; remove trees, stumps, and debris when required. Keeping grounds free from trash, litter, and debris, and emptying trash receptacles. Maintain landscape related equipment including mowers, tractors, tillers, and trimmers. Trimming trees, hedges, and shrubs, and preventing and eliminating weeds. Safely utilizing herbicides in public areas. Assist in watering container plants when needed. Spread mulch. Operating and maintaining hand tools, such as loppers, saws and shovels efficiently. Operating and maintaining trucks and power tools. Removing snow and ice by using a shovel or snow blower. Assist in composting operation. Waters and mulches landscape plants as needed. Safety and Security Operates multiple types of machinery and performs basic preventive maintenance. Follow safety precautions when utilizing variety of hand and power tools and equipment Assist with the maintenance of tools and equipment. Perform general clean-up of grounds (garbage, leaves, branches) cleans out drainage ditches and culverts, checks all areas for safety daily. Safely utilize of a variety of hand and power tools and equipment. Assist with keeping inventory of all landscape tools. Maintains records of chemical usage.
ADDITIONAL DUTIES
Attend all meetings and trainings as required. Follow all OSMG policies and procedures. Perform other duties as assigned.

WHAT YOU’LL NEED
High School Diploma or GED preferred. Some groundskeeping experience preferred. Valid North Carolina Driver’s License is required. Proficient in using manual and power tools safely. Ability to follow instructions. Physically agile and dexterous.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Extensive physical activity. Manual handling of heavy equipment & materials heavy lifting, pushing, or pulling required of objects 50 pounds and on occasion objects 100 pounds. Work environment involves some exposure to unusual elements, such as extreme temperatures, hazards or physical risks, which require following basic safety precautions. Frequent climbing and balancing. Significant stooping, kneeling, crouching and/or crawling Significant fine finger dexterity. Use of hand tools for variety of garden maintenance tasks to include digging, planting, weeding, and pruning. Able to walk on flat, sloped uneven terrain or wet conditions. Ability to safely operate various machines.
