Job Description This position is being re-advertised. The District Crew Technician will be assigned to parks maintenance District 2, which is a 7-member team consisting of three maintenance workers, one equipment operator, a senior maintenance technician, one gardener, and a crew supervisor. The objective of the district crew maintenance worker is to provide outstanding customer service maintaining the District 2 parks with high standards for quality and safety.

Work Hours:

This position works between 15 and 25 hours per week; Monday

  • Friday. 7:00 am
  • 3:30 pm in the Fall/Winter and 6:00 am
  • 2:30 pm Spring/Summer.

The position must be available to work weekends when needed. This role works up to 25 hours per week as a Permanent Part-Time position and contributes to the Local Governmental Employees’ Retirement System (LGERS) at a 6% employee contribution in addition to eligibility for 401k/457 retirement plans. Duties and Responsibilities Mowing, Edging, Trimming, Mulching, and Leaf Removal

  • Key tasks for maintaining the parks’ appearance and cleanliness
    Operating Machinery, including a Zero-Turn Mower, Tractor, String Trimmer, Edger, and Backpack Blower
  • Essential equipment operation for efficient maintenance
    Driving a Commercial Truck with Trailer on Busy City Streets and Haul Materials and Equipment under 26,000 Pounds (Non-CDL)
  • Critical for transporting materials and equipment
    Performing Preventative Equipment Maintenance
  • Ensures machinery remains in good working condition and prevents downtime
    Assisting the City in Cleanup and Repair During Inclement Weather
  • Important for responding to emergencies and maintaining safety during adverse weather conditions
    Attending all Required Safety Trainings, and Participates in Team Building Activities
  • Ensures safety, proper procedures, and strong team collaboration
Typical Qualifications Education and Experience:

High School Diploma or GED and two years of maintenance experience OR An equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above, unless otherwise subject to any other requirements set forth in law or regulation.

Licensing and Certifications:

Valid North Carolina Class C Driver’s License with a satisfactory driving record or the ability to obtain within 60 days of hire

Additional Information Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Effectively communicating, reliable and safety conscious with a strong work ethic
General maintenance tasks including mowing, trimming, mulching, weeding, planting, and tree/shrub pruning
Assisting with snow removal, cleanup and repairs during inclement weather
Keenly aware of good customer service practices while upholding high standards for quality work

ADA and Other Requirements:

Positions in this class typically require: stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, lifting, fingering, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, seeing and repetitive motions.

Heavy Work:

Exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects.

Working Conditions:

Work is performed in both the field and in an indoor office environment with moderate exposure to atmospheric conditions (such as fumes, odors, dusts, gases, poor ventilation, etc.); moderate exposure to environmental conditions (such as disruptive people, imminent danger, or a threatening environment); and frequent exposure to intense noise.
