Maintenance Team Captain Reports to :

Operations Manager or Supervisor Job Purpose :

To lead and manage a maintenance crew in delivering high-quality landscaping and property maintenance services while ensuring safety, efficiency, and client satisfaction. Responsibilities and DutiesLeadership and Team Management Supervise, train, and mentor Maintenance Teammates to ensure tasks are completed to company standards. Delegate responsibilities effectively, ensuring efficient use of crew time and resources. Foster a positive and productive work environment, promoting teamwork and professional growth. Client Interaction Serve as the primary point of contact for clients on job sites, addressing questions, concerns, and special requests. Communicate professionally and ensure client satisfaction by providing updates and accommodating reasonable changes to the plan. Safety and Compliance Enforce all company safety protocols and ensure crew members use personal protective equipment (PPE) at all times. Oversee the proper setup of safety cones around vehicles and trailers. Ensure compliance with Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations and other relevant laws. Conduct safety briefings and training sessions for crew members as needed. Job Planning and Execution Plan and organize daily job tasks to ensure efficient completion of work. Oversee property maintenance activities, including mowing, edging, trimming, pruning, and blowing. Operate mechanical equipment as needed, including mowers, trimmers, edgers, and blowers. Monitor job progress and quality, making adjustments as necessary to meet company standards. Equipment and Vehicle Maintenance Conduct pre- and post-work inspections of vehicles, trailers, and equipment to ensure they are in safe working order. Perform basic equipment maintenance and report repair needs to management promptly. Ensure all equipment is properly secured during transport and stored correctly at the end of the day. Administrative Tasks Complete and submit paperwork, including timesheets, work orders, change orders, and client job sheets. Track job progress and report issues or updates to the Operations Manager. Maintain accurate records of materials used and any chemical applications performed. Problem-Solving Identify and address challenges on job sites, including crew-related issues, equipment malfunctions, and client concerns. Provide feedback and recommendations to improve processes and job efficiency. Seasonal Support Lead snow removal efforts during the winter months, including plowing, salting, and ensuring team readiness for inclement weather tasks. QualificationsEducation High school diploma or GED required. Additional training or certifications in landscaping, horticulture, or management are a plus. Experience Minimum of 2 years of experience in landscaping or lawn maintenance required. Previous leadership or supervisory experience is strongly preferred. Skills Strong leadership and team management skills. Excellent communication and client service abilities. Proficient in using mechanical landscaping equipment. Strong organizational and problem-solving skills. Ability to train and mentor team members effectively. Certifications Valid driver’s license required; CDL preferred but not mandatory. Certification in chemical application or willingness to obtain certification is a plus. Physical Demands Ability to stand, walk, crouch, stoop, bend, or kneel for extended periods. Regularly lift and/or move up to 75 pounds with assistance as necessary. Comfortable working outdoors in various weather conditions and on uneven terrain. Work Conditions Exposure to wet or humid conditions, extreme temperatures, and moving mechanical equipment. Regular interaction with teammates, supervisors, and clients. Work Hours Monday through

Friday:

7:30 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. Additional or makeup work on Saturdays as scheduled. 30-minute unpaid lunch break.

Compensation and Benefits Starting pay:

$20.00 – $25.00 per hour, based on experience and qualifications. Full-time employees are eligible for health, vision, and dental insurance, as well as paid time off (PTO).
