Summary:

The purpose of the Groundkeeper is to cultivate and maintain the grounds at our various facilities in a safe and efficient manner. This includes assisting in ensuring compliance with applicable federal, state, and local laws and regulations, as well as established policies and procedures. The Groundskeeping Team will be responsible for grass cutting, edging, mulching, and weeding along with spring and fall cleanups at all facilities. This also includes working with management and staff to assure a successful groundskeeping program. This position will also be responsible for snow removal in the winter months at all Vincentian facilities. It is the duty of all employees to promote and support a resident centered care environment that ensures the treatment of all residents, family members, visitors, fellow employees and customers with kindness, respect, and dignity.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Commits to the Vincentian Collaborative System (VCS) mission to nurture and sustain a ministry of compassionate care that preserves the human dignity of persons within a diverse and changing society. 2. Groundskeeper upholds and promotes the VCS values of spirituality, compassion, quality, dignity, collaboration, advocacy, and stewardship. 3. Promotes and supports a resident centered care environment that ensures the treatment of all residents, family members, visitors, fellow employees and customers with kindness, respect, and dignity. 4. Adheres to all facility and department work rules, policies, and procedures. 5. Performs a variety of groundskeeping duties in and around the Vincentian facilities. 6. May be required to travel between and work at all the various Vincentian facilities and campuses. 7. Groundskeeper uses personal protective equipment and supplies as appropriate and as directed by the Vincentian Safety department. 8. Performs groundskeeping duties including working with the gardener in the cultivation and design of planted areas. Helps in maintaining all flower beds and planters, keeping them healthy and free of weeds etc. 9. Assists other grounds staff in the performance of grounds responsibilities, including, but not limited to, grass cutting, weeding, seasonal cleanups and snow removal. 10. Must be able to safely operate powered groundskeeping and landscaping machinery including, but not limited to, lawn mowers, garden tractors, trimmers, edging equipment, weed eaters, saws, and vehicles. 11. Groundskeeper must be able to remove snow and ice build up using the equipment and materials supplied, including snowplows, snowblowers and shovels. 12. Responsible for the cleaning and maintenance of all tools and equipment. 13. May perform groundskeeping, grounds maintenance and other outdoor duties as assigned. 14. According to predetermined schedule, tours the facilities to inspect the appearance of landscaped areas. 15. Anticipates and acts to maintain a safe environment. Incorporates safety/risk management standards into daily job performance under the direction of the Vincentian Safety department. 16. Groundskeeper performs job functions in a manner that promotes efficient use of resources. 17. Must be willing to report to work early on days, including weekends when snow removal/ice accumulation duties are needed. Report times can vary depending on the needs of the facilities and an on -call schedule will be designed to meet the needs of Vincentian. 18. Performs all other duties assigned by supervisor.

Education/Experience:

1. High school graduate or equivalent required. 2. Current/valid driver’s license required. 3. Minimum of two years experience preferred.

Work Environment:

Employees of a long-term care facility work in a resident care environment that operates 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days per year. Employees can be expected to be exposed to unpleasant odors and may encounter physically or verbally aggressive residents. Working conditions include exposure to outdoor temperatures.
