FUNCTIONS

All job functions are to be executed through the lens of high quality customer service. Customers are defined as both internal and external clients. Examples demonstrative of high quality service may include, but are not limited to, the following: Operates and maintains lawn mowers and sweepers and other power equipment used in grounds work (sprayers, pruners, and trimmers) to ensure they work effectively and safely. Maintains flower beds and other landscaping including laying bark, weeding, edging etc. Set-up for athletic events including preparing fields, opening facilities (gates, grandstands, restrooms). Maintains athletic fields and tracks. Assists the installation of irrigation systems, fence and boundary markers. Works successfully with others following proper channels in communicating complaints or concerns about building or District level operations. Interacts thoughtfully and courteously with students, staff and parents and resolves conflict in a professional manner. Takes the initiative in proposing improvements to grounds, including lawns, shrubs, trees, flowers, seeding, planting and landscaping. Operates and performs maintenance/repairs annually and as needed on a wide variety of landscape equipment, including chippers, edgers, pressure washers, chainsaws, pole saws, hedgers, string trimmers and blowers. Maintenance includes sharpening blades, restringing pole cords, rebuilding carburetors, filters, greasing, plugs and creating parts list for purchasing. Files a record of maintenance and repairs Operates and transports heavy equipment, including tractors with loaders, dump trucks, aerators, small and large area mowers and pick-up trucks pulling heavy equipment trailers Performs tree and shrub maintenance including planting, transplanting, trimming, removal and disease management. Installs district exterior signs Performs playground equipment repairs and maintenance. Cleans and maintains sidewalks, parking lots and roadways as needed. Responds to emergency calls to troubleshoot and make grounds repairs. Removes snow from sidewalks, driveways, parking areas and spreads sand, salt or ashes to prevent slipping; also shovels snow from steps and sidewalks. Works inside during winter on assigned utility maintenance jobs and preventive maintenance work. Maintains and repairs all equipment used in conducting duties. Maintains and cares for all the school grounds. Inventories grounds equipment and supplies. Inspects flowers, shrubs and trees for evidence of insects, fungi and other pests and sprays or dusts chemicals on infected areas. Collects and transports recyclable items throughout the District. Performs additional tasks as assigned by the Director of Buildings and Grounds, District Superintendent and Business Manager.

KNOWLEDGE & SKILL REQUIREMENTS
Education:

High School Diploma or GED.

Certification:

Must possess a valid driving license, pesticide certification preferred

Experience:

__ A minimum of five years of experience in grounds irrigation, horticulture and overall grounds maintenance is preferred. Works well with others from diverse backgrounds. Must have ability to understand and follow oral and written directions. Able to establish and maintain effective relationships with those encountered in the course of the work. Must have leadership abilities to effectively organize, schedule and oversee personnel in a team setting.

Skills:

Effective oral and written communication skills, and effective use of technology required; Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide all units of measure; to perform the four operations with like common decimal fractions; to compute ratio and proportion, and percentage; to calculate surfaces, volume, weights and measures.
