Our airport is growing, help us maintain it. This is skilled entry-level technical work involving chemical and other eradication methods for surveillance and abatement of weed/aquatic weed/invasive plant and pest control. Employees in this class have the primary duties of applying chemicals, following approved techniques, to maintain effective control undesirable pests or vegetation and prevent damage to adjacent vegetation or harm to animal or marine life. Duties include performing normal maintenance associated with spraying activities.

Work Schedule:

Monday – Thursday, 5:30 AM – 4:00 PM •A 10-year criminal history records check will be completed to meet TSA requirements. A plea of guilty or adjudication withheld for a felony are considered convictions per TSA and will disqualify an individual from getting an Airport ID badge.•What Would You Do? Operates chemical spray equipment, utilizing proper abatement techniques. Performs chemical/mechanical control of aquatic weed/invasive plant in mitigation areas. Determines appropriate time and schedule for spraying based on growth season characteristics, condition of water and/or soil to be treated, weather conditions, wind and other variables. Selects and mixes appropriate chemical agents considering infestation, environment and vegetation. Operates and maintains equipment used in chemical treatment operations including trucks, motors, and various types of spray apparatus. Operates equipment such as tractor with batwing mower, flail mower. Communicates effectively with the Air Traffic Control Tower (ATCT) and independently navigates the airfield in a safe manner. Works outdoors in the heat and humidity. Maintains spray records as required by law. What Do You Need To Have? 1 year of experience in weed and/or pest control spraying or abatement, industrial or commercial chemical spraying; or An equivalent combination of education, training, and/or experience. Possession and maintenance of a valid Florida Driver License upon hire. As a condition of employment, the selected candidate must be in possession of a Florida Public or Commercial Restricted Use Pesticide Applicators license with certification in Core Aquatic Weed Control and Right-of-Way Pest Control within one (1) year of hire. The selected candidate must pass a fingerprint-based criminal history records check and Security Threat Assessment as required by the Transportation Security Administration within 30 days of employment. Security Identification Display Area (SIDA) Badge required for employment at the Airport. Highly Desirable Airport Experience. Florida Public or Commercial Restricted Use Pesticide Applicators license with certification in Core, Aquatic Weed Control, Right-of-Way, Ornamental and Turf. Pest Control.
