Requirements and Competencies
Must have high school diploma or equivalent
Must have at least 3 years horticulture experience
Must be at least 18 years old
Must have a valid state driver’s license and be able to obtain apany driver’s license
Must have excellent written and verbalmunication skills
Must be able to prioritize tasks and organize work crews to carry out operations effectively
Must be able to multi-task and adapt to changes in a fast paced work environment
Must be able to work in water up to chin deep with flotation device in order to maintain horticultural displays adjacent to waterways
Must be able to stand for long period of time
Must be able to bend, kneel and climb repetitively
Must be able to lift, push and pull 50 pounds
Must be available to work varying shifts or hours based on park hours; i.e. be able to work opening and closing shifts
• Starting rate is $19.00
Primary Responsibilities
Primary task is to actively trim and maintain park trees and palms
Operate equipment (with training), including but not limited to high reach, chainsaw, large lull, mowers, augers, trimmers, shears, tillers, utility carts, trucks, trailers, water tanks, tractors, forklift, etc.
Create and maintain various reports as requested by the department
Perform diverse horticultural, grounds keeping and greenhouse tasks including but not limited to watering, weeding, planting, transplanting, pruning, mulching, and mowing
Provide supervision and training of team members, in carrying out grounds keeping operations and provide performance feedback, counseling, and developmental discussions
Actively assists department management in planning of operations and other projects and department processes and functions
Involved in scheduling/requests of team members
Perform construction and installation tasks including but not limited to retention walls, pavement, and irrigation installation
Perform tasks related to cold-weather protection as well as preparation for storms and perform repair work for any weather damage or other damage
Perform cleaning tasks so as to maintain a safe, clean professional workplace
Perform other miscellaneous duties as required
