Responsibilities:

Design and maintain native plant gardens , ensuring they thrive in Florida’s climate and soil conditions. Lead, train, and manage the groundskeeping crew, fostering a strong understanding of native plant care. Develop and implement ecologically sustainable landscaping practices. Monitor plant health, diagnose issues, and apply natural pest/disease management solutions . Ensure proper irrigation and soil management techniques suited for native plants. Maintain compliance with local environmental regulations and conservation efforts. Collaborate with management to introduce native plant restoration projects. Manage budget and inventory for landscaping materials and supplies. Respond to weather-related or emergency groundskeeping needs.

  • Perform, monitor, and manage tasks such as irrigation, tree removal, trimming, plumbing, parking lot maintenance, and consult with contractors to determine extent of service required and schedule work to have minimal impact on daily operations of facilities.
  • Select, purchase, and monitor application of chemical fertilizers, pesticides, and herbicides.
  • Consult with Director, grounds maintenance professionals and other staff to assess campus grounds maintenance needs.

Mow, trim, and edge lawns, including sports fields. Use blower to clean landscaped and parking lot areas. Keep grounds clean and free of trash and debris. Maintain grounds equipment. Performs other duties as assigned. Horticulturist & Groundskeeping Manager (Native Plant Specialist)

Qualifications:

Expert knowledge of Florida native plants , ecosystems, and sustainable landscaping methods. Bachelor’s degree in Horticulture, Landscape Ecology, Environmental Science, or a related field (preferred). 3+ years of experience in horticulture, native plant landscaping, or grounds management. Strong leadership skills with proven experience (1+ years) managing a team. Experience with irrigation systems, soil restoration, and pest control using ecological methods. Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions. Excellent organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills. Have a valid driver’s license Lift up to 50 pounds Work from ladders Climb stairs Stand or walk for long periods of time. Stand, walk, sit, bend, reach, stoop, kneel, crouch, and crawl. Work in an outdoor environment, with exposure to inclement weather and varying temperatures. Horticulturist & Groundskeeping Manager (Native Plant Specialist)

Licenses/Certifications:

Commercial Pesticide Applicator’s License or obtain within 6 months of employment. Valid Driver’s License/CDL or obtain within 6 months of employment. Passing a Drug Screening and Background Check is required for employment.
