POSITION SUMMARY
The Outdoor Maintenance Coordinator will primarily be responsible for overseeing the care and maintenance of 3 outdoor spaces within the Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Augusta properties. This includes the management of athletic fields/courts, lawns, gardens, and green spaces, along with the delivery of horticulture-based educational programming for youth members. The role combines both practical lawn care duties and educational activities that introduce youth to the world of plants, gardening, and environmental stewardship. Key Responsibilities Maintain the aesthetic and functional quality of lawns, gardens, and outdoor spaces, including mowing, trimming, weeding, fertilizing, and watering. Maintain athletic facilities to include lining fields and ensure that facilities are set up when it is being rented. Ensure proper care of trees, shrubs, and plants throughout the facility. Oversee seasonal tasks such as planting, mulching, and snow removal (if applicable). Maintain tools, equipment, and storage areas related to lawn care operations. Manage landscaping materials, including soil, fertilizers, and mulch.
Horticulture Education:
Develop and implement hands-on horticulture education programs for youth members that promote environmental awareness, gardening skills, and sustainable practices. Lead workshops, activities, and field trips focused on planting, growing, and caring for plants. Encourage and inspire youth to explore horticulture and its importance to the environment and community. Foster a fun and educational outdoor experience for youth through engaging, age-appropriate activities. Work with other staff to integrate horticulture education into the Club’s broader programming.
Youth Engagement:
Provide leadership and guidance to youth volunteers or program participants involved in gardening and landscaping activities. Support the development of leadership and teamwork skills among youth through gardening projects and group activities. Promote environmental sustainability and responsible gardening practices. Qualifications Proven experience in lawn care, landscaping, or horticulture. Strong organizational and time-management skills. Ability to manage multiple tasks and to develop solutions to problems with limited supervision. Strong verbal, written and presentation communication skills. Ability to operate and maintain landscaping equipment safely. Experience in maintaining gardens, lawns, or outdoor spaces is a plus. Ability to adapt horticulture education to various age groups and learning styles. Basic knowledge of plant biology, pest management, and landscape design. Preferred Skills Knowledge of sustainable gardening practices and environmental stewardship. Experience in developing educational curriculum or activity plans for children and youth.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions. Ability to lift and carry heavy materials, such as mulch, soil, and tools. Ability to bend, kneel, and perform other physical tasks associated with lawn care and gardening.
