The Garden Center Assistant Manager must be able to regularly lift 60 lbs. and will be outside during the heat and humidity of summer, with regular breaks inside. This is a hot, sweaty job that requires regularly lifting heavy objects, weeding, and working outside in a hot and humid environment. The Garden Center Assistant Manager must be proactive and able to learn quickly. This person is expected to work independently after an initial training period. We are located on the neck near a bus stop and also provide complimentary on-site parking for employees. This person must be comfortable assisting customers and answering questions.
Duties include:
Take direction from the Garden Center Manager Proactively assisting customers with questions and various plant-centric needs Caring for plants in the garden center and inside the store Proactively rotating out stock-plants that are out-of-season to the sale table Maintain garden center Watering plants in the garden center and inside the store Weed the planters and garden center paths Loading large bags of mulch and soil into customer cars Organize soil rack & tidy bags of soil Move/relocate planters and plants around the garden center as needed Use blower on walkways and pick up scattered trash as needed Perform daily checklist in an expedient manner Manage any staff assisting with garden center tasks
Requirements:
At least 1 year of horticulture experience At least 1 year of customer service Knowledge of insects/pests, drainage & soil types, and an extensive knowledge of plants is required for this position Retail experience would be beneficial, although it’s not required 6 paid holidays and 2 weeks of PTO are provided; employee is eligible for profit-sharing bonuses. The store has 2 cats that live on-site and customers are allowed to bring in leashed dogs. A comprehensive background check will be run prior to employment.
