Provides security services in City parks to residents and visitors alike; maintains an environment where people feel safe and secure. Provides information about park rules and regulations, including explanations and enforcement of regulatory codes and ordinances relating primarily to park usage. Reports to Senior Park Ranger and Park and Recreation Manager.

EXAMPLE OF DUTIES

Enforces all park rules and regulations in a tactful manner.

Provides information such as available facilities and activities, park usage rules.

Makes scheduled rounds of City parks to provide surveillance of all patron activity.

Attends to emergency situations and performs minor first aid.

Follows proper emergency procedures in the event of a serious incident.

Performs light maintenance duties.

Clears paved areas of debris, branches and other obstructions.

Works with civic organizations and sports leagues to coordinate schedules for fields and courts usage.

Checks facilities to ensure lights have been turned off and buildings secured.

Operates vehicles, two-way radios and other equipment.

Notifies the proper authorities when necessary of violations.

Assists authorities to extent permitted.

Issues courtesy warnings in the effort to prevent crime and accidents.

Maintains detail oriented reports and completes incident reports when necessary.

Works closely with the Broward Sheriff’s Office personnel.

Demonstrates impeccable customer service.

Ensures all pavilions have correct and accurate permits.

Inspects parks for potential safety concerns and reports all concerns to Parks and Recreation Manager and Senior Park Ranger; secures area as necessary.

Responsible for hanging/removing approved banners in accordance with the banner schedule at City’s designated locations.

Assists with all special events.

Works with the public, including seniors and/or children and users of athletic programs, and investigates complaints.

Performs other related duties as required/assigned.

SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION

Work environment is typically performed in a dynamic environment that requires sensitivity and responsiveness to changes that include goals, priorities, and needs of the organization and position.

The work is medium and requires exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and up to 30 pounds of force frequently, and up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.

Additionally, the following physical abilities are required: balancing, climbing, crawling, crouching, feeling, manual dexterity, grasping, handling, hearing, kneeling, lifting, mental acuity, pulling, pushing, reaching, repetitive motion, speaking, standing, stooping, talking, visual acuity, and walking.

Must be able to work in all types of weather, with exposures to radiant energy.

May be exposed to toxic fumes or work near moving mechanical equipment.

Must be able to work independently and close/lock gates, parks, and facilities.

SAFETY SENSITIVE POSITION

This position is deemed a safety sensitive position in accordance with Florida State Statute Chapter 112.0455 Drug Free Workplace Act and is subject to pre-employment drug screening.
