Job Function:

To perform services, operate, maintain, and restore City Parks and Facilities to a high level of functions, safety and public satisfaction. This is a skilled position responsible for various duties associated with the maintenance and operation of the cemetery and other parks. Due to the sensitive nature of the subject, the person should have excellent communication skills as well as the ability to exercise and express patience, understanding and compassion.

Essential Duties:

Perform all services, activities and projects of the Park Services Division, which might include the maintenance/operation of municipal parks and City grounds, cemetery, median strips, playgrounds, sports facilities, and the construction, maintenance and repair of parks and recreation facilitates and equipment. Maintains cemetery and parks grounds, and landscape by performing mowing, weeding, raking, digging, hedge shearing, and other manual labor tasks. Meets with the public, giving information on the cost and availability of gravesites. Works with funeral directors and monument companies on locating and marking gravesites, scheduling of services. Participate in the development and implementation of policies and procedures. Follow Safety Policies and Procedures. Inspect assigned municipal parks and City grounds and facilities and related facilities and equipment for needed repair or replacement using established guidelines and standards. Respond to safety issues within a 24 hours basis. Inspect work sites before, during and after completion to assure work is completed in a highly satisfactory and thorough manner. Ensure all tools, equipment and vehicles are properly taken care of. Assist with the maintenance of time, material and equipment use records. Attend and participate in professional group meeting; stay abreast of new trends and innovations in the field of municipal parks, grounds and facilities construction, maintenance and repair. Respond to and report difficult and sensitive citizen inquires and complaints. Report all incidents to immediate supervisor. Work as a valuable and dependable team player to assist and improve programs, facilities and working conditions in the City. Must be able to work nights, weekends and special events. Driving of City Vehicles (A valid Florida Driver’s License is required) Perform related duties and responsibilities as required.

Ability to react quickly and calmly in emergency situations. Ability to maintain effective working relationships with supervisor, employees and the general public. Ability to prepare and maintain records and reports as required. Ability to deal with the general public of all ages tactfully and effectively. Ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing. Collaborative team player who can interface with varying levels of professionals and outreach and network across cultural and ethnic groups. Demonstrated high energy level and flexibility, pleasant persona coupled with sound judgment, flexible, discreet and able to maintain confidential information, knowledge of correct protocol for specific situations. Detailed knowledge of city parks, streets and parking areas Establish and maintain cooperative relationships with those contacted in the course of work. Respond to sensitive matters and/or situations with discretion, tact, and confidentiality.

Required Qualifications:

High school diploma or GED required. Six months of cemetery or parks related experience or any equivalent combination of training and experience is preferred. Valid Florida Driver’s License required. Complete the required National Incident Management System (NIMS) training within 6 months of completion of probationary period.

Essential Physical Skills:

Ability to talk by means of spoken words. Acceptable eyesight (with or without corrections). Acceptable hearing (with or with hearing aid). Ability to life and/ or carry weights of 50 lbs. Walking or standing for periods of time Able frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects. Must be able to operate computer systems and components, turf and grounds equipment, hand tools, hook-up and drive a truck with trailer. Ability to work, walk and stand for extended periods of time, up to 12 hours a day. Must be able to work varied schedules and times, including nights, weekends, and holidays.

Environmental Conditions:

Works primary in the outdoor environment and is subject to sun, heat, humidity, rain, cold and inclement weather. Works inside in an office environment. Required to work City and/or Special events which occur on nights and weekends.
