Directs aviion mission planning including briefings of pilots, contract personnel and crews on mission requirements. Participes in and may direct helicopter operions to include accompanying pilot on flights, provides radio communicions to dispch and or ground firefighter Directs aviion safety processes in coordinion with pilot. performing wildland fire operions, and least one of the following wildland fire-fighting functions: Initial tack and Fire-line Suppression Operions; Prescribed Fire Operions; Helitack Operions; Wildland Fire Engine Operions; leading others in any two of the following functions: initial tack and suppression hand-crew operions; prescribed fire operions; wildland fire engine crew operions; helitack fire crew operions; providing on-the-job training and conducting daily crew briefings, safety sessions, and/or other basic wildland fire training. Experience will include One season as an assistant fire helicopter crew supervisor. You must include hours worked per week.

  • AND•Primary firefighter positions include the following age requirements: Under age 37•OR•Less than age 37 after subtracting the months of Permanent Federal Service worked in a primary or secondary firefighter/law enforcement position•OR•A veteran preference eligible, older than age 37 and is requesting a waiver to the maximum age requirement.

This position is covered by the special retirement provisions of 5 U.S.C. 8336 (c) and 5 U.S.C. 8412 (d) as a Primary/Rigorous Firefighter. Physical Demands:

The Helicopter Manager is typically the initial tack responder for many incidents.

Duties include demands for strenuous activities in emergencies under adverseenvironmental conditions and over extended periods of time. Operion of somespecialized fire equipment can place extended physical stress on the incumbent duringfire activities. The work frequently involves long shifts and complex decision making,and extended periods of time away from home.

Working Conditions:

The work is performed remote locions, airstrips, helibases, unimproved helispots,and park environments of extreme high and low temperures, steep terrain, anduneven work surfaces. The hazardous nure of the work requires th personalprotective equipment be worn (boots, hardh, gloves, flame resistant clothing, etc.).Work may require travel by light fixed-wing or rotor-wing aircraft, and opering firetrucks (engines) under adverse conditions.
