The Environmental Protection Division is seeking to fill a Professional On-Call position with the Lake Management Program. Orange County is home to some of Florida’s most prized lake systems. These waterbodies are managed to control invasive, non-native plants from degrading the use and function of our natural resources. The qualified candidate will be part of the Aquatic Plant Management team responsible for invasive aquatic plant management on County waterbodies. Job Description General Functions Work includes field and office activities, including routine lake surveys, herbicide treatments, and conventional boat or airboat operation, towing, and launching. Work is characterized by considerable independence and responsibility to exercise initiative and carry all assignments through to completion. Must have good written and communication skills and ability to provide excellent customer service. Must have good computer skills and be familiar with current GPS and mapping equipment. Candidate may also be required to attend public meetings and provide public assistance. Representative Duties/Assignments Schedule and conduct aquatic vegetation surveys and treatments Field application of pesticides and herbicides for invasive aquatic plant control Operation of watercraft of various sizes, that may include airboats Assist in developing integrated aquatic plant management plans Earn CEUs required to maintain FDACS pesticide applicator license Data entry into County and State databases and preparation of reports Participate in studies, conferences, and specialized research Occassionally attend public meetings, make presentations, and provide public assistance Train new staff in proper procedures and techniques Perform other related duties as assigned Minimum Qualifications Some knowledge of Florida aquatic plants E xperence in the application of aquatic or terrestrial pesticides. Have knowledge of computer skills Strong general mechanical experience Experience in operating a 4-wheel drive vehicle, airboat, conventional boat, and the towing/pulling of boats. Must Possess and maintain a valid State of Florida Driver’s License. Must be able to perform job related tasks, which would include but not be limited to climbing, walking over uneven ground, vessel operation, towing, and launching, lifting up to 50 pounds, exposure to dust and fumes, and occasional exposure to heat and adverse weather. Preferences Prefer applicants with FDACS pesticide applicator license (Core) or be able to obtain an Aquatics 5A category within six (6) months of hire.
