Parks and Recreation Downtown Park Tech – Part-Time Town of Waxhaw Waxhaw, NC 28173 GENERAL

DESCRIPTION

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily; must follow safety guidelines provided by the town; and must be dependable. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. The Park Tech reports to the Downtown Park Manager.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/TYPICAL TASKS

Conducts daily inspections of all facilities and equipment as requested. Performs general duties for park grounds and facilities such as cleaning and maintenance of park restrooms and other facility related areas. Keeps buildings and grounds attractive through regular upkeep and maintenance. Performs trail and amenity maintenance (i.e., cleanup, debris removal and mulching). Handle minor carpentry repairs and change light bulbs as needed. Performing mowing, weed eating and power blowing off facilities to maintain a neat appearance. Clean and maintain mowing equipment after each use. Empties trash receptacles throughout the parks as assigned. Provide assistance during various Town events, such as movie nights, music nights, seasonal events, cultural arts festival, and any other planned events. Other related duties as assigned.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to: Sit, stoop, stand, walk, kneel, crouch, crawl. Talk or hear. Use hands and fingers and handle or feel objects, tools, or controls, and reach with hands and arms. The employee must frequently lift and move from 50 to more than 100 pounds. Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Work in various weather conditions, including inclement weather. Occasionally work near moving machinery. Occasionally work at heights, but with appropriate safety precautions. Occasionally handle potentially hazardous substances, such as chemicals, with proper safety measures in place. Exposure to outdoor weather conditions, including extreme heat and cold. Exposure to loud noises, but with hearing protection provided. Ensure adherence to safety protocols and guidelines to minimize risks and hazards.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

High School degree and 1-2 years of experience in maintenance, landscaping, or related experience. NC Pesticides license required or ability to gain license within six months. GED and other experiences may be considered.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

Possession of a valid North or South Carolina Driver’s License. Must be a minimum of 18 years of age Must have availability nights, weekends and holidays Final applicant subject to pre-employment drug screening and background check.
