Mosquito Inspector/Technician/SEASONAL Manatee County Mosquito Control District 1420 28th Avenue East, Ellenton, FL 34222 SEASONAL, TEMPORARY
POSITION
Mosquito Technician I – This position supports the District’s Ground Department and is responsible for assisting in field inspection, prevention and treatment of mosquito larvae to prevent adult mosquitoes from producing. Also, treatment of adult mosquitoes as needed.
THIS IS A SEASONAL/TEMPORARY POSITION
working 40+ hours a week (over-time) for six (6) months.
Essential Functions:
Assisting with conducting surveys of mosquito populations, making and assisting with chemical applications, assisting with field research, and providing public education. Knowledge of federal and state laws, rules and regulations applicable to the mosquito control profession Ability to operate motor vehicles/boats and traverse rough terrain Ability to communicate effectively Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations
Qualifications:
Possession of a high school diploma or GED from accredited institution Conduct basic field work by collecting samples and data Applying laws, rules, regulations, standards, policies and procedures Possession of a clear Drivers License Successfully pass the DACS Pesticide Applicators Tests (Core and Public Health) shortly after hire date A Mosquito Technician I is always in a probationary status. Failure to obtain a DACS Public Health Pesticide Applicators License within the prescribed time limit may result in termination of employment with the District. Salary for this position is $18 per hour based on qualifications.

Physical Requirements:
Moderate-to-strenuous physical activity is required on a regular basis including lifting, carrying up to fifty pounds, reaching and pulling with arms, stooping, squatting, walking, kneeling, bending, standing, climbing in and out of various equipment and vehicles and climbing up and down ladders. Must be able to use hands and fingers to type, grip and operate a variety of hand tools and other equipment. Excellent vision, both close and distance, is frequently required.
Work Environment:
The work environment varies but normally is outdoors but may also include saltmarshes, wetlands, workshops, warehouses, office buildings, airplane hangars, laboratories, forklifts, off base locations, heliports and vehicles. Regular exposure to all types of weather, including high temperatures and humidity, sun, rain, wind, mud, and insects is required as the position regularly works outside. Occasional local travel is required. Noise level is usually low but occasional exposure to moderate noise levels when around helicopters, tanker trucks and a variety of motors, equipment and engines. Working with and around chemicals, which must be stored, handled, applied/used and disposed of according to exact labeling instructions, is a requirement of the position. Working with or around fuel, fumes, paint and dirt is frequently required. Regular exposure to moving mechanical parts is required. This is NOT a complete job description.
