As a Senior Architect, you will play a critical leadership role in supporting large-scale planning and design efforts across federal installations, including Installation Development Plans (IDPs), Area Development Plans (ADPs), Department of State architectural projects, and design-build initiatives. You will be responsible for leading architectural design efforts, coordinating with multidisciplinary teams, supporting construction administration services, and ensuring project delivery meets the highest standards of quality, innovation, and compliance with federal and agency-specific guidelines. The ideal candidate will bring a strong background in planning-focused architecture, federal contracting experience, design-build execution, and construction administrative oversight. Key Duties and Responsibilities Architectural Design Leadership Lead and oversee the development of architectural design for federal projects, including State Department design-build projects, mission-critical facilities, and installation planning efforts. Produce high-quality architectural deliverables, from conceptual design through construction documents, adhering to UFC (Unified Facilities Criteria) and State Department OBO (Overseas Buildings Operations) standards. Develop programming, conceptual layouts, site planning, space planning, and facility master planning in support of Installation and Area Development Plans. Federal Planning Support Collaborate with planners, engineers, and landscape architects on Installation Development Plans (IDPs), Area Development Plans (ADPs), and other long-range planning projects. Integrate architectural strategies into installation-wide development plans, ensuring mission alignment, sustainability, resilience, and efficient land use. Prepare design narratives, project justification reports, and facility assessments in support of planning documents. Design-Build and Construction Administration Act as a technical resource and design lead on federal design-build projects, including coordination with General Contractors (GCs), design-build partners, and government clients. Provide construction administration services, including submittal reviews, RFIs, site inspections, and punch list coordination. Ensure quality assurance and quality control (QA/QC) standards are met throughout the project lifecycle. Project Management and Collaboration Support Project Managers in developing scopes of work, fee proposals, schedules, and client deliverables. Interface regularly with government clients, including NAVFAC, USACE, and State Department representatives, to ensure project goals and compliance requirements are met. Mentor junior architects and designers, providing technical guidance and professional development support. Compliance and Technical Standards Maintain proficiency in federal design standards including UFCs, State Department OBO Design Standards, ADA compliance, Anti-Terrorism/Force Protection (AT/FP) requirements, and sustainable building practices (LEED, Energy Independence guidelines). Incorporate federal energy, resilience, and sustainability policies into all designs. Qualifications Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Architecture from an accredited program. Active U.S. Architectural Registration (RA) required. 8+ years of professional experience, with at least 5 years in federal design or planning projects preferred. Proficiency in AutoCAD, Revit, and Adobe Creative Suite; experience with SketchUp, Bluebeam, and/or other visualization tools is a plus. Strong understanding of Unified Facilities Criteria (UFC), International Building Codes (IBC), and federal standards. Exceptional written and verbal communication skills. Ability to travel occasionally for site visits, client meetings, and construction support.
