Job Description
PRIMARY FUNCTION
The Architect is a crucial role within the Savannah-Chatham County Public School System (SCCPSS), responsible for creating small drawings and documents for minor projects, providing quality assurance and quality control (QA/QC) on drawings submitted by design professionals, assisting project managers in both existing and new projects, participating in walkdowns, and creating and ensuring the completion of punch lists as designed. This position involves close collaboration with various stakeholders to support the effective planning, design, and execution of school facility projects.

REQUIREMENTS:
Educational Level:
Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Architecture from an accredited institution.
Experience, Skill and Certification
- Professional licensure as an Architect (RA) in the state of Georgia
- NCARB Certificate and registration or capability thereof through NCARB reciprocity process
- 5+ years of experience in architectural design, including experience as a Project Architect. Proven experience in architectural design, preferably in an educational or institutional setting
- Strong knowledge of building codes, regulations, and industry standards
- Proficiency in architectural software such as Revit, AutoCAD, SketchUp, Lumion, Photoshop, Illustrator, and other relevant tools
- Excellent attention to detail and strong analytical skills. Effective communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment. Strong organizational and project management skills. Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities simultaneously
- Eligible for educational support license
- Eligible for Georgia Professional Standards Support Certificate.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES
1.
Drawing and Documentation:
Create small drawings and documents for minor projects, ensuring accuracy and compliance with SCCPSS standards. Develop and maintain detailed architectural plans and specifications.2. Quality Assurance and Quality Control (QA/QC): Review and provide QA/QC on drawings and documents submitted by external design professionals. Ensure all architectural plans meet regulatory requirements, school system standards, and project specifications.3.
Project Assistance:
Assist project managers in planning and executing both existing and new projects. Provide architectural expertise and support throughout project lifecycles. Collaborate with project teams to ensure design intent is met and maintained.4.
Walkdowns and Punch Lists:
Participate in walkdowns to assess project progress and identify any issues. Create detailed punch lists for project completion, ensuring all items are addressed as designed. Verify the completion of punch list items and ensure they meet quality standards.5.
Design Guidelines:
Assist in the development and maintenance of design guidelines for SCCPSS. Ensure all designs meet established design guidelines and standards.6.
Mentoring and Staff Development:
Mentor and encourage staff in their development and contributions in design. Provide training and professional development opportunities to enhance staff skills and knowledge.7.
Full Scope of Architectural Services:
Oversee the full scope of architectural services through the final completion of projects. Ensure effective communication and collaboration between all project stakeholders.8.
Collaboration and Coordination:
Work closely with school administrators, staff, and external vendors to coordinate architectural efforts. Support the development and implementation of architectural policies and procedures.
