Prattville, AL Job Details Full-time $18.74 – $32.69 an hour 1 day ago Qualifications 5 years Mid-level Full Job Description JOB Under the general supervision of the Road Foreman, the employee operates various types of heavy equipment in the completion of highly complex and difficult construction and maintenance activities on County roads, bridges, and right-of-ways (ROW). The employee supervises road crews in the absence of the Foreman. Employee performs maintenance inspections on assigned equipment, notifies Foreman of equipment failures, and may assist with repairs. The employee also maintains an activity log of work performed by road crews. Employee also performs other routine manual labor as assigned.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTION

Road Construction and Maintenance. Operates heavy equipment using proper safety gear to perform construction and maintenance operations on County roads, bridges, and ROW. Performs the full range of heavy equipment operations in road construction and maintenance activities. Operates motor graders to prepare terrain for construction projects, grade new roads, and maintain appropriate grades on existing roads and ROW. Operates heavy tractors such as bulldozer, backhoe, track hoe, and front-end loader for excavating terrain and loading materials into trucks. Operates grade-all, asphalt spreader and rollers to pave/resurface roads. Operates bush hog, slope mower, hydroblaster, and tractors with various attachments in performing ROW maintenance. Operates medium and heavy duty trucks, asphalt and tar truck for hauling materials to/from work site. Installs and maintains driveway and drain pipes; cleans ditches. Uses hand tools to cut back vegetation on rights-of-way and clear trees and debris from roads. Completes assignments within specified time frames. Follows plans and instructions regarding projects. Maintains a log of daily activities. Assists Foreman in estimating amount of materials needed for road projects. Advises foreman on capabilities and best utilization of various types of heavy equipment.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTION

Equipment Maintenance. Performs routine and preventative maintenance on assigned vehicle. Performs daily and monthly safety and maintenance vehicle inspections on assigned equipment. Performs preventative maintenance on equipment. Monitors gauges and other indicators during equipment operation for non-standard conditions. Ensures assigned equipment is fueled. Reports equipment maintenance status to the Foreman.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTION

General Operations and Manual Labor. Performs general and manual labor tasks following departmental policies and procedures in order to ensure proper maintenance and efficient operations of the department. Provides oversight and directs the work of other personnel in complex construction and maintenance projects in the Foreman’s absence. Assists members of road crews as necessary. Checks work to ensure that it is being performed correctly. Ensures the proper signage is visible during construction and maintenance operations. Performs flagman duties, as needed, while on road maintenance jobs. Shovels asphalt, rocks, dirt and other materials during road repairs. Picks up and piles brush, refuse and other materials. Performs other duties as assigned.
