ASPHALT PAVING SUPERINTENDENT
Position Objective :
Southern Development & Construction is looking for an experienced Asphalt Superintendent. This is a management position requiring the supervision and coordination of activities of the Asphalt Paving Foreman and crew members engaged in spreading, rolling, tamping, and patching asphalt to form surfaces of highways, streets, parking lots, and driveways. This position is responsible for all facets of asphalt paving.
Essential Functions:
Ensure the safety of crew members and the public who may interact with the job. Supervise crews of up to 12 people and prioritize work. Tour job sites to ascertain progress in meeting time schedules, detect insufficient utilization of workers and equipment, measure slope and material thickness to verify compliance with contracts, and supervise the job. Demonstrate knowledge of asphalt paving, establishing grade, layout, etc. Enforce company and/or client policies and procedures as well as state and federal regulations governing the worksite and the environment. Accurately read plans and specifications and build project according to them. Efficiently operate support equipment. Complete project reports as required. Regularly conduct safety meetings, practice workplace safety. Complete and submit all paperwork in a timely manner. Coordinate and track deliveries of equipment, materials, forms, etc. Assist in performing the work as necessary.
Competencies:
Minimum of 5 years of experience preferred. Display an uncompromising focus on safety by properly following company policies and
OSHA/MSHA/DOT
regulations for safe working procedures and protection of the environment. Computer literate – HCSS, Microsoft Office including Excel experience preferred. Ability to do basic math. Display a professional and courteous attitude to co-workers, supervisors and the general public at all times. Be willing to work in a team environment and assist co-workers or supervisors with other duties as required. Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed written or oral instructions. Ability to communicate in English with respect to job assignments, job procedures, and applicable safety standards. Valid Driver’s License required, Commercial Driver’s License helpful. Completion of grade 12 or equivalent preferred.
Work Demands & Environment:
Employee will be required to work in outdoor environments which may include exposure to extreme temperatures and weather. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to walk, stand, sit, shovel, sweep, rake, demonstrate manual dexterity, climb stairs and ladders, and work on elevated platforms, possibly for extended periods.
