Job Description:
The Asphalt Paver Operator is responsible for operating the paving machine to apply asphalt to roadways, parking lots, and other surfaces. This position ensures the safe, accurate, and efficient placement of asphalt in accordance with project specifications. The operator works closely with the paving crew to coordinate material flow and maintain consistent mat thickness and alignment.
Key Responsibilities:
Operate asphalt paver controls to distribute, level, and smooth asphalt material. Monitor speed, feed rate, and depth of paving to ensure uniform application. Coordinate with dump truck drivers for proper material unloading. Communicate with screed operators, laborers, and other crew members to maintain proper mat consistency and quality. Make minor adjustments and perform routine maintenance on the paver. Observe safety guidelines and operate equipment in accordance with company policies and manufacturer recommendations. Identify and correct irregularities in the mat or paver performance.
Requirements:
Proven experience operating an asphalt paver on commercial or highway projects. Understanding of paving techniques, grades, slopes, and compaction standards. Ability to read and interpret job plans and layout markings. Strong attention to detail and awareness of surroundings on active job sites. Physical ability to work long hours in outdoor environments and handle moderate lifting and movement. Team-oriented with strong communication skills.
