Job Description:
The Asphalt Raker / Lute Operator is responsible for distributing, leveling, and smoothing hot mix asphalt on roadways, parking lots, and other surfaces. This role works closely with the paving crew to ensure consistent depth, proper compaction, and a smooth finish. The ideal candidate should have experience with hand tools such as lutes, rakes, and shovels, and a solid understanding of paving operations and safety procedures.
Key Responsibilities:
Use a lute or rake to spread asphalt evenly and eliminate imperfections in the mat. Maintain proper depth and smoothness of asphalt surface. Assist paver operator and screed man by communicating inconsistencies or high/low spots. Monitor mix temperature and material consistency. Ensure transitions, joints, and edges are properly feathered and compacted. Perform cleanup duties and maintain a safe, clean work environment. Follow all company safety policies and procedures.
Requirements:
Previous experience in asphalt paving or road construction preferred. Ability to work long hours outdoors in varying weather conditions. Knowledge of proper raking and luting techniques. Physical strength and stamina to lift, bend, and stand for extended periods. Ability to work as part of a team and follow directions from supervisors. All Employees are expected to assist in Traffic Control duties at any given time
