To excel as a Skilled Asphalt Laborer at JT Russell and Sons in Albemarle, candidates should possess essential skills and qualifications. We are seeking a minimum of 2 years of experience working with asphalt, demonstrating a solid understanding of the material and its applications. Attention to detail and situational awareness are critical for maintaining a safe work environment. Candidates should be physically fit and able to stand for extended periods, lift and carry heavy loads, and navigate uneven surfaces. The ability to stay alert amidst the various activities on a construction site is key.

Proficiency in climbing on and off heavy machinery safely, working in diverse weather conditions, and handling common construction site substances is necessary for success in this position.

Knowledge and skills required for the position are

• 2+ years experience with asphalt preferred
• Valid, insurable driver license preferred
• Keen attention to detail and situational awareness to maintain the safety of the work environment
• Employee must be able to stand for extended periods of time as required
• Ability to lift and carry at least 50 pounds
• Maintain constant alertness to the multiple concurrent activities of the construction site
• Frequently walk on uneven surfaces
• Must be able to climb on and off heavy mobile equipment safely
• Able to work outside in all weather conditions
• Work may involve a variety of substances commonly found on construction sites such as form oil, grease, curing compounds, gasoline, and diesel fuel.
