POSTING-Only temporary or permanent NCDOT employees or layoff candidates with the NC Department of Transportation eligible for RIF priority reemployment consideration as described by GS 126May Apply” This posting is for a Transportation Worker II performing work primarily associated with the paint crew for the NCDOT Wilson County Traffic Services Unit. + In this position you will maintain pavement markers, special markings, centerline and edge lines, special event traffic control, and other duties as assigned. + You will operate manual and equipment operational work in the placement of pavement markings. + Operates paint machines, trucks and other equipment related to pavement markings. + Establishes and maintains traffic control, including flagging duties, for paint operations. + Performs routine maintenance and safety checks. + Subject to occasional emergency duties and will perform all other duties as assigned. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities / Competencies Applicants must submit an application that clearly reflects work experience that demonstrates the following: + Experience operating a Paint Machine + Experience in Intermediate Work Zone Safety + Experience in disassembling, cleaning and repairing spray devices and components parts for pavement marking machines + Experience in at least two pieces of Category B equipment (paint truck, pre-line paint machine, asphalt distributor, asphalt mixer, asphalt patcher, crack sealing machine, ditching machine, force feed loader, front end loader, lube truck, asphalt maintainer, post driver, skid steer, street sweeper, tandem dump truck, tractor “A” boom mower, truck w/aerial device)
Additional Expectations:
The ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions is required. This position is subject to emergency callback, scheduled night work, snow and ice removal operations, and overtime as needed. Position performs manual labor tasks for extended periods of time in extreme temperatures and uneven terrain. Visual acuity is required. The selected candidate must be able to legally operate Class A CDL required equipment/trucks with both manual and automatic transmissions at the time of hire or within 360 days of hire date. High school or General Educational Development diploma and three years of experience operating equipment directly related to the field of specialization; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Necessary Special Requirements Either possession of a current Commercial Driver’s License on the date of hire, OR the North Carolina Commercial Driver’s License must be obtained through completion of on-the-job training and all requirements mandated by Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations (Federal Registry 49 CFR 383) within 360 days of the date of hire.
