Boiler Service and Start-up Technician – Commercial Reports to:

Full Time, Non-Exempt (Eligible for overtime)

Position Purpose:

The primary purpose of the Boiler Service and Start-up Technician is to provide, start-up, warranty, and repair services on commercial and hydronic equipment. Strong emphasis on customer service. Our technicians will work with extremely specialized equipment, that are responsible for hydronic heating and domestic water systems in schools, hospitals, office buildings, industrial buildings, universities, manufacturing facilities or other large institutions. The Boiler Service and Start-up Technician may occasionally involve after hour call outs in order to provide emergency repairs. Provide guidance and direction to administrative personnel to effectively plan, schedule, coordinate, etc. all activities related to field HVAC service and construction/replacement work. Boiler Technician Duties and responsibilities:

Perform startup, service and maintenance on HHY’s brands. Perform troubleshooting and technical support on HHY’s brands. Over the phone, in person and over email Prepare for jobs by having necessary tools, Installation and Operation Manuals, and procedures on hand when at a jobsite. Maintain certifications required to perform startup and service on HHY’s brands Maintain company vehicle Keeping vehicle neat, clean, and having required maintenance performed Complete and submit all required paperwork as defined by our SOP. Communicate via phone, text, and email with customers, controls contractors, salespeople, service team, manufacturers and Hoffman personnel. Create and maintain relationships with customers, salespeople, service team, manufacturers, and Hoffman personnel. Travel will mainly occur within the assigned territory, with travel and overnight stays outside the territory as required. Knowledge, Experience and Critical Skills Minimum 5 years experience working on hydronic equipment. Experience rebuilding pumps, performing laser alignment, boiler and water heater startup is preferred. Operational knowledge of computers and Microsoft Office tools. Ability to read, comprehend, and write instructions, service reports, and correspondence. Ability to read and comprehend wiring diagrams, piping diagrams, graphical data, ratios, and percentages. Effective presentation skills in one-on-one or small group settings. Ability to analyze the hydronic system to determine cause and effect on equipment. Ability to problem solve issues in the mechanical room by analyzing and collecting data, establishing facts and communicating valid conclusions. Self-motivated with a proven record in service. Ability to prioritize and work effectively on multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment. Ability to meet deadlines and stay updated on core product maintenance, repair, start-ups, and certifications. Efficient and effective troubleshooting skills. Build positive customer relationships with excellent customer service skills and a desire to exceed customer expectations. Well-organized, self-motivated, and able to work independently while interacting effectively with others at all levels within and outside the company. High ethical standards and the desire to maintain confidentiality. Good oral and written communication skills. Comfortable working in various conditions. Valid driver’s license and clean driving record. Knowledge of basic electricity, electrical control systems, and general mechanical systems. Must keep up to date with all product certifications.

Safety Requirements:

Adhere to all company safety policies and procedures, including the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) such as safety glasses, gloves, and steel-toed boots. Follow lockout/tagout procedures to ensure equipment is safely de-energized before performing maintenance or repairs. Conduct regular safety inspections of tools, equipment, and work areas to identify and mitigate potential hazards. Participate in safety training programs and stay informed about industry best practices and OSHA regulations. Report any safety incidents, near misses, or unsafe conditions to the Service Supervisor immediately. Ensure proper ventilation and safe handling of hazardous materials, including chemicals and fuels. Maintain a clean and organized work environment to prevent accidents and injuries.

Physical Demand Requirements:

Regularly required to stand, talk, hear, and use hands/fingers to grasp/handle/feel. Frequently required to walk, reach, stoop, kneel, crouch, climb ladders, and crawl. Occasionally required to sit. Must regularly lift/move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift/move up to 50 pounds, and occasionally lift/move up to 75 pounds. Requires close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. Frequent outdoor work, exposure to extreme weather conditions, live voltage, moving mechanical parts, and heavy equipment. Exposure to wet/humid conditions, elevated workplaces, fumes, airborne particles, risk of electrical shock, and vibration.
