DESCRIPTION OF WORK

As a Carpentry Trade Instructor for the Department of Corrections, you will provide on-the-job training and shop instruction for the vocational training of inmates in the carpentry trade. Work involves the instruction of inmates in the practices, methods, and procedures of the carpentry trade by demonstration, explanation, and close supervision during training and work assignments.
You will instruct inmates and assist in the maintenance and preventative maintenance in the repair of floors, windows, roofs, locks, screens, spouting, and other wooden structures and equipment that pertain to the carpentry trade. You will also provide guidance in the installation of new windows, doors, floors, roofs, locks, and screens by utilizing proper carpentry skills and knowledge of teaching practices to ensure proper installation and operation. This professional is responsible for planning and assigning work, as well as reviewing and inspecting work in progress and upon completion for adherence to carpenter trades standards. You will issue and collect tools, supplies, and materials required by inmate workers and requisition materials, supplies, and equipment. Work Schedule and Additional Information:

Full-time employment, 40 hours/week.
Work hours are 7:30 AM to 3:30 PM, Monday•Friday.
This position is eligible for full retirement benefits at age 50 or 55.

Telework:

You will not have the option to telework in this position.

Salary:

Selected candidates who are new to employment with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $50,846.00 (before taxes).

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

Five years of experience in general construction or finish carpentry; or
Completion of an approved apprenticeship in the carpentry trade; or
An equivalent combination of experience and training which includes one year of journey level work in the carpentry trade.

Other Requirements:

Successful completion of basic training in Elizabethtown, PA is required.

You must be able to perform essential job functions.

You must pass a background investigation and meet Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) compliance requirements.
