Job Description
The Senior Carpenter is responsible for performing highly skilled general commercial construction work, including layout, repair, renovation, and maintenance of buildings and structures. This role involves advanced carpentry tasks, including both rough and finish carpentry, as well as masonry work. The Senior Carpenter provides technical guidance, reviews the work of junior carpenters, and ensures that all projects meet the required standards. This position requires the ability to work independently with minimal supervision, communicate effectively with various stakeholders, and manage multiple tasks simultaneously.

Responsibilities
Assumes the responsibilities of a Foreman when the Foreman is unavailable or absent.
Receives work orders and assist in the supervision of a work crew by assigning duties and reviewing work for compliance with instructions.
Constructs, repairs, and maintains rough frame wood and light steel stud structures and tenant improvements, including floors, walls, roofs, stairs, decks, ramps, fences and gates.
Constructs, installs, repairs, and maintains finish carpentry systems including cabinets, counter tops, laminate construction, interior and exterior trim and wainscoting.
Installs, repairs and maintains windows and frames, doors and frames, screens, and finish hardware systems.
Performs basic masonry repairs including block, brick, per-cast stone, and tile.
Layout of walls, rooms, doorways, windows, sidewalks and other building components.
Forms, pours, and finishes concrete sidewalks, pads, and foundations.
Installs drywall, partitions, floor tile, ceiling tile and shingle and metal roof systems.
Hangs shelving, white-boards, signs, and other items when needed.
Follows blueprints and specifications to assure the work is correct.
Completes selective demo and removal of construction debris.
Operates and maintains stationary woodworking equipment including table saws, band saws, boring machines, planers, jointer’s and sharpers.
Operates power hand tools including, jig saws, reciprocating saws, drills hammer drills, drivers, impact drivers, and screw guns.
Operates personnel lifts (platform or boom) and forklifts if needed for projects.
Site measures, estimates material takeoffs and prepares orders for supplies and equipment.
Prepares designs and sketches for some design/build carpentry projects.
Assists with walk-through of jobs, to insure work-orders are completed and correct.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications

Education:

High school diploma or GED

Experience:

Nine (9) years of experience or trade school and experience. (Experience may be substituted for education on a year for year basis)

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:

Skilled in the safe operation of power tools
Skilled in all aspects of blueprint reading, measurements, and symbols
Knowledge of building codes and regulations and general carpentry technology and fundamental principles of structural layouts, dimensions, and components.
Ability to read and interpret oral and written instructions.
Ability to develop and maintain cooperative working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.

Valid Driver’s license
Preferred Qualifications

Education:

Vocational or technical training in a related field

Experience:

Nine (9) years of experience with two of those years being in a supervisory or lead carpenter role.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:

Ability to establish effective working relationships with management, employees, employee representatives and the public representing diverse cultures and backgrounds.
Ability to treat Campus employees, students, and representatives of outside agencies and members of the public with courtesy and respect.
Knowledge to assess the customer’s immediate needs and ensure customer’s needed services through personal service or making appropriate referral.
Skilled at exercise appropriate judgment in answering questions and releasing information; analyze and project consequences of decisions and/ or recommendation.
