Role:
This is a full-time, entry-level opportunity for recent high school graduates or individuals beginning their career in the civil and structural engineering field. As a Bridge Inspector, you will receive training and hands-on experience in field inspections, data collection, safety protocols, and reporting processes that support the maintenance and safety of our nation’s infrastructure. What you’ll be doing: Perform bridge and structural inspections under the supervision of a certified team leader
Assist with the preparation of inspection reports, drawings, and documentation
Learn and apply federal and state inspection standards (including FHWA and AASHTO guidelines)
Operate and maintain inspection tools, equipment, and software
Gain a working knowledge of safety procedures and practices while in the field
Collaborate with engineering teams to review and assess structural conditions
Travel to project sites (day trips and overnight stays required) What you need to have: High school diploma or GED
Interest in civil infrastructure, construction, or engineering-related work
Willingness to learn and grow in a hands-on, outdoor work environment
Strong attention to detail and ability to follow instructions
Ability to work safely and effectively in physically demanding conditions
Strong work ethic, reliability, and eagerness to be part of a team
Comfortable working at heights, in confined spaces, and near traffic
Ability to pass a pre-employment drug screening to ensure a safe and productive work environment. Volkert adheres to federal guidelines, which may include testing for substances such as marijuana. Please note that federal regulations may differ from state-specific guidelines
Valid driver’s license
Preferred Qualifications:
Familiarity with CAD, GIS, or bridge inspection software a plus
NHI Safety Inspection of In-Service Bridges training a plus (or willingness to complete upon hire)
