Reports to the Chief Electrical Inspector. Essential Functions Reads building plans and specifications to compare with actual construction. Performs thorough Electrical inspections to ensure compliance with Florida Building Codes, safety and energy codes, Broward County Rules and other requirements. Prepares inspection reports, including correction recommendations. Receives and responds to inquiries from homeowners/property owners, contractors, architects, engineers, etc., regarding codes and compliance procedures. Performs general administrative/office work as required, including but not limited to attending meetings, preparing reports and correspondence, copying and filing documents, answering the telephone, etc. Interacts and communicates with the immediate supervisor, co-workers, other City department personnel, property/homeowners, developers, contractors, architects, engineers, trade workers, County personnel, general public, etc. Provides excellent customer service by clearly and politely explaining code requirements to applicants and the general public. Operates a vehicle and a variety of equipment, including a computer, typewriter, calculator, copier, telephone, small hand tools, etc. Performs additional related duties as assigned and/or required. Minimum Qualifications High school diploma or GED equivalent Valid state driver’s license

Special Requirements:

Per Broward County Administrative Code 104.12.3 for a person to be eligible for appointment as Electrical Inspector, such person shall meet at least one (1) of the following : Be a Florida Licensed Professional Engineer with two (2) years of experience or by-passing BORA’s Licensing exam. (Engineers are exempt from BCAIB certification.) Five (5) years construction experience in the electrical discipline in a supervisory capacity and possess a Certificate of Competency as a Master Electrician or Electrical Contractor. Five (5) years construction experience in the electrical discipline and five (5) years’ experience as an Electrical Inspector certified by BCAIB and possess a Certificate of Competency as a Master Electrician or Electrical Contractor. Seven (7) years construction experience in the electrical discipline and possess a Certificate of Competency as a Journeyman Electrician. Position Requirements/Qualifications

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES

Knowledge of the principles, methods, and practices of building construction. Knowledge of the principles, methods, and practices of the installation and maintenance of equipment, appliances, and devices related to the applicable discipline. Knowledge of building codes, laws, and regulations. Ability to read and interpret building plans, diagrams, and specifications. Ability to communicate effectively in oral and written form. Ability to adapt to an evolving and continually improving environment. Ability to respond to supervision, guidance and direction of superiors in a positive, receptive manner and in accordance with stated policies and procedures. Ability to demonstrate a polite, helpful and courteous manner when engaged in any activity with the general public. Ability to operate and care for equipment to manufacturer’s specifications and/or within the specified parameters. Ability to demonstrate an understanding, consideration, and respect of cultural, religious, and gender differences when interacting with the general public and colleagues.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Requires moderate physical effort including lifting up to 50 pounds. May require frequent crouching, kneeling, bending, and stooping. Frequent periods of standing or walking may be required.

GENERAL BENEFITS

The City of Miramar provides benefits for its permanent full-time and part-time employees. Benefits will differ dependent upon the job classification and representation, which include union and unrepresented. Vacation Permanent full-time employees earn up to ten days of vacation during their first year of employment. Accrual begins from the first month of employment, but cannot be used until after the third month of employment. Permanent part-time employees have the opportunity to earn vacation after the completion of one year of continuous service. Sick Leave Permanent full-time employees accrue sick leave at the rate of one day per month. Permanent part-time employees have the opportunity to earn sick leave after the completion of one year of continuous service. Health Plan The City currently provides medical coverage through Aetna. The City pays the health insurance premium for the employee and 50% of the premium for dependents. Permanent full-time employees have the option of electing coverage from three plans: Health Network Only Plan (HMO), High Deductible Health Plan (HDHP) with HSA and Open Access Managed Choice Plan (POS). Permanent part-time employees have the option of electing coverage from two plans: Health Network Only Plan (HMO) and the High Deductible Health Plan (HDHP) The City also offers Dental coverage through Delta Dental. Pension (Defined Benefit Plan) Permanent full-time employees are automatically enrolled in one of the City sponsored pension plans, which are funded by mandatory City and employee contributions. The Plan provides a guaranteed income, based on years of service, to its members upon retirement. 457(b) Plan (Deferred Compensation Plan) Employees can elect to participate in this Plan, which enables the employee the option of deferring compensation on a pretax basis, not to exceed the applicable limits established by the IRC. Employee Assistance Program The City of Miramar provides an Employee Assistance Program (EAP) for employees and their eligible dependents.
