Hours of work are Monday through Thursday either 7:00am-5:30pm or 7:30am-6:00pm. Under general supervision, performs technical work enforcing National, State and local building codes governing the installation and operation of electrical systems. Is responsible for reviewing building construction projects to determine adherence to such building codes as adopted and set forth by Town ordinance. Reports to Chief Electrical Inspector.

Essential Job Functions:

Inspects electrical installation projects so as to enforce the Florida Building Code and related Town ordinances governing minimum standards and requirements of new installations, alterations, repairs and materials used. Inspects electrical projects to ensure compliance with approved plans and construction and safety practices, examines facilities for quality of design, materials and workmanship. Maintains all necessary records and reports on inspections. Performs inspections of new and existing residences, businesses and other buildings for conformance with safety standards, codes, and ordinances; issues inspection certificates for approved installation. Confers with other inspectors and the Chief Electrical Inspector on questions of departmental policies and other inspection problems. Confers with contractors, architects, engineers and others regarding construction codes and electrical installation plans. May review and pass upon plans for electrical installation and alterations. Performs other related work as required. Minimum Requirements (Must meet by the closing date of the posting unless otherwise stated) Have graduated from a standard high school or vocational school or possess a G.E.D. certificate from a recognized issuing agency. Qualifying work experience may be substituted for the High School or equivalent education requirement on a year-for-year basis Possess or be able to obtain a valid State of Florida driver’s license within 30 days of hire. Certified by the Building Code Administrators and Inspectors Board (BCAIB) as an Electrical Inspector. Required certifications must be kept current to continue employment in this class. Engineers are exempt from BCAIB certification Certification by the Broward County Board of Rules and Appeals (BORA) and meet at least one of the following (Applicants holding a Bachelor or an Associate of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering may be credited for two (2) years for a Bachelor Degree or one (1) year for an Associate Degree towards the BORA combined experience certification requirements): Possess a current Certificate of Competency or Professional License in the electrical discipline as a Master Electrician or Electrical Contractor or Journeyman Electrician issued by at least one of the following entities: Florida Electrical Contractors Licensing Board Broward County Central Examining Board of Electricians Miami-Dade County Construction Trades Qualifying Board, Block proctored Florida Board of Professional Engineers Per Chapter 7-575, paragraph 4 (b) of the laws of Florida, Inspectors holding a Certificate of Competency in any area of construction shall not use their Certification to engage in free enterprise competing against persons or firms that may do business within Broward County whose work they may also inspect, nor may they allow their Certificate of Competency to be used by another person or firm
