Building Inspector Hardee County Board of County Commissioners 401 West Main Street, Wauchula, FL 33873 Job Summary We are seeking a detail-oriented and knowledgeable Building Inspector to join our team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for ensuring that construction projects comply with local building codes, regulations, and standards. This role involves conducting thorough inspections of buildings and construction sites, assessing quality control measures, and providing valuable feedback to contractors and stakeholders. Responsibilities Conducts field inspections of construction work for compliance with Florida Building Code, Florida Statutes, Administrative Rules, building codes, statutes and local ordinances. Ensures construction compliance with plans, engineering and other construction documents. Climbs ladders, enters attics, crawlspaces and confined areas to ensure compliance. Photographs, logs, documents and completes computer entries of all inspections. Composes reports and letters documenting field conditions, deficiencies and requirements. Answers the phone, returns calls and assists with customers at the permit counter. Researches code interpretations and consults with contractors, manufacturers and engineers. Investigates complaints of permitted and non-permitted work and issues stop work orders. Maintains a current working knowledge of new products, techniques and code changes. Performs other related job duties as assigned. Skills Knowledge of building codes, zoning regulations and community development plans and programs for Hardee County. Knowledge of State and Federal laws as they effect zoning, building and development. Ability to effectively interact with the public, County employees and County Officials.
