Job Title:
Distribution Design Technician Associate Onsite:

Downtown Tampa Primary Duties and Responsibilities Customer Engagement and Project Planning Meet with customers and their representatives to assess project needs and feasibility for new construction and load additions. Establish project milestones and targeted completion dates for each construction phase. Communicate schedule changes to all relevant stakeholders, documenting updates via written correspondence as needed. Work Request Management Create and manage Work Requests (WRs) in the Work Management System (WMS). Break down complex jobs into phases, generating WRs for each phase—overhead lines, underground lines, service installations, project conduit, and crossing conduit. Update work status and project details in WMS for all associated WRs. Technical Analysis and System Design Conduct load assessments and system modeling to provide reliable and cost-effective service solutions. For customers with demand under 50 kW, estimate electrical loads; for those over 50 kW, coordinate with New Construction team. Use specialized software (e.g., PoleForeman) to model field conditions and determine optimal material, equipment, and compliance with regulatory standards. GIS and Infrastructure Mapping Use Geographical Information System (GIS) to design and document proposed and existing electrical infrastructure. Ensure accurate electrical connectivity, proper structural support, and correct material/labor specifications (Compatible Units or CUs). Resolve GIS discrepancies, link GIS tasks to WRs, and upload finalized data to WMS. Construction Planning and Documentation Produce or supervise the creation of construction prints for field crews and contractors. Ensure construction prints identify all existing/proposed assets and third-party utilities (e.g., water, sewer, gas, telecom). Evaluate the need for Maintenance-of-Traffic (MOT) plans based on project scope and safety standards. Compliance and Financial Verification Support Sarbanes-Oxley compliance by reviewing financial data in WMS related to construction and maintenance. Confirm activities are correctly classified and charged to the appropriate Capital or O&M accounts. Equipment Inspection and Troubleshooting Perform field inspections and tests to evaluate the integrity of equipment. After training, access energized equipment to install voltage/current monitoring devices (RVMs) for diagnostic purposes.

Supervision None Key Working Relationships Internal:

Work closely with Distribution Operations, Field Construction, Mapping Services, Lighting, Telecom, Engineering, and Customer Service teams.

External:

Coordinate with residential/commercial customers, developers, contractors, utility partners, and local/state agencies such as FDOT and the EPA. Lifting up to 50 lbs. may be required. Must wear Fire Resistant (FR) clothing and other required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).

Qualifications Education Required:
High School Diploma or GED Preferred:

Associate’s or Bachelor’s Degree, or technical certifications related to electrical systems, drafting, or GIS Licenses/Certifications Valid driver’s license with a safe driving record Florida license required within 30 days of Florida residency (if applicable)

Experience Required:

Minimum 2 years of related experience (e.g., work order management, CAD drafting, GIS mapping) OR 1 year of experience as a Distribution Design Field Inspector, or relevant field experience as a lineworker or electrician

Preferred:

Experience in roles such as TEC Service Area Coordinator (SAC), GIS Technician, or Distribution Design Field Inspector Knowledge/Skills/Abilities Proficiency with utility industry systems, including: Work Management Systems (e.g., WorkPro) GIS and CAD software PoleForeman Customer Information Systems Distribution Engineering Toolkit Voltage monitoring applications
