Job Overview:
We are actively seeking experienced Storm Damage Assessors (DAs) to support utility companies during major weather events across Florida and the nation. As a Damage Assessor, you will be responsible for patrolling storm-affected areas, assessing damage to electrical distribution, transmission, and substation systems, and reporting your findings to the appropriate utility contacts. This is a contract-based role, ideal for independent contractors with significant experience in utility operations and storm response.
Key Responsibilities:
Safely patrol storm-affected electrical infrastructure (distribution, transmission, and substations). Identify damaged electrical components such as poles, wires, transformers, and other critical infrastructure. Recognize hazards and unsafe conditions, and determine the necessary crew size and equipment for repairs. Accurately report damage assessments using the required documentation process. Distinguish between electrical lines and other utility lines (e.g., cable, telephone). Collaborate with teams and assist in leading patrolling activities when needed. Remain on-site and available until restoration work is completed, including follow-up inspections. Ensure compliance with safety standards and regulations.
Required Qualifications:
Prior experience in utility distribution, transmission, or substation systems is preferred. Hands-on experience with storm damage assessment or restoration work. Proficient in identifying primary and secondary electrical facilities and their components. Ability to use mobile devices for communication and documentation. Physically fit and able to patrol various terrains and weather conditions safely. Ability to mobilize quickly to event sites. Strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with teams. Valid driver’s license and access to a reliable vehicle (4X4 truck or SUV preferred).
Preferred Qualifications:
Prior storm assessment experience, especially in disaster recovery. Familiarity with safety standards for electrical distribution and transmission systems. CPR/First Aid certification is a plus. Previous experience leading small teams in the field during storm duty. Availability for day and night shifts, weekends, and on-call duty as required by the utility.
Physical Requirements:
Ability to stand, walk, and patrol for extended periods in various terrains and weather conditions. Ability to lift and handle equipment over 50 pounds using safe lifting techniques. Frequent use of hands, arms, and vision for equipment handling, documentation, and reporting.
Work Environment:
Exposure to outdoor weather conditions, including extreme weather from natural disasters. Work near moving mechanical parts and in environments with high noise levels. Required to wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) , including safety vests, hard hats, gloves, and other safety gear as specified. Why Join Us?
