FLSA Status:
Full Time/Exempt Brooks County is seeking a detail-oriented and reliable Building Inspector/Fleet Management Agent to oversee building code compliance and manage the County’s vehicle and equipment fleet. This dual-role position ensures the safety and structural integrity of buildings through inspections while maintaining the operational readiness and efficiency of the County’s vehicles and heavy equipment.
Key Responsibilities:
Building Inspector Duties:
Inspect residential, commercial, and public buildings to ensure compliance with local, state, and federal building codes and zoning regulations. Review building plans, permit applications, and construction documents. Issue notices of violation and provide guidance on corrective actions. Maintain accurate and detailed inspection records and reports. Respond to public inquiries and complaints regarding building code issues. Coordinate with planning, zoning, and public safety departments as needed.
Fleet Management Duties:
Maintain accurate inventory and maintenance records of County-owned vehicles and equipment. Schedule and track preventive maintenance and repairs. Ensure compliance with vehicle safety and environmental regulations. Coordinate with vendors and service providers for parts and repairs. Monitor fleet usage and recommend vehicle replacements or upgrades. Develop and implement fleet policies and cost-control measures.
Qualifications:
Education & Experience:
High school diploma or equivalent (required); Associate’s degree in construction management, engineering, or a related field (preferred). Minimum 3 years of experience in building inspection, construction, or a related field. Experience in fleet management or vehicle maintenance coordination preferred. Certifications (preferred or required within 12 months): ICC Building Inspector Certification Valid Driver’s License with clean driving record ASE Certification or equivalent (a plus)
Skills & Abilities:
Strong knowledge of building codes, construction methods, and safety standards. Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical manuals. Proficiency in computer systems, including inspection and fleet management software. Excellent communication and organizational skills. Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities.
Working Conditions:
Work is performed in both office and field environments. Regular exposure to outdoor conditions and construction sites. May be required to lift up to 50 pounds and perform physical inspections.
